How is Fred Bassett still in print? Did anyone ever enjoy it? Is there a collection of the rare strips where the author at least attempted a joke?

I did find this in my search for the Bassett strips above, which made me laugh. Once again, God bless Australia!

I’m not saying Fred Bassett had to match Far Side or Calvin and Hobbes, those were all-time greats! But it is bizarrely free of jokes or even attempts at humor, which is a little strange for a comic strip.

    Quoted from LTG:

Cartoonist is from Scotland. Different sense of humor compared to other strips.

FWIW, I thought Train Spotting was funny. Maybe it’s Scottish dog humor that’s the problem.

    Quoted from DanQverymuch:

Any single Calvin & Hobbes strip contains more humor than all Fred Bassetts, Marmadukes and Family Circuses combined!

    Tough but fair.

    Quoted from Berserk:

At least it's not The Family Circus.

Cheers to that. Fred Bassett’s aggressive refusal to even attempt humor is still better than whatever they’re doing in Family Circus (with a few exceptions, of course):

Of course Family Circus also presents better opportunities for recaptioning:
