I've found some old (70s) machines in need of alot of work:
Close Encounters - NICE Head Glass but missing boards.
Black Out - very rough but has boards.
Time Warp - bad head glass, missing boards.

Should I run towards or away?
If towards - how much should I offer and how much will I need for restorations?

That is a massive amount of work. I wouldn't take them for free, other than rip out any boards that look decent enough to salvage.

If you haven't bought a machine yet, I would highly recommend at least two working ones before taking on a project. Learning is better when you have working ones to retreat to.

I'd take the blackout and that's about it.

And for not more than 100 bucks...if that.

At some point you start to accumulate junk around the house, ya know?

Just be honest with yourself. Do you like big projects? That looks like what you'd be buying.

I like Blackout. I passed on one at auction for ~$550-$600 (after fees/tax) that was in near perfect shape about a year and a half ago. So I'd consider that your ceiling.

From what I've seen the early SS pins aren't really increasing much in value compared to the late 1980s+ SS. So if you're in it to make money... after buying parts and spending time I doubt it is worth it.

Personally, a complete Blackout in salvagable condition would maybe be worth $100-$200 to me... but only because I really like it. I wouldn't count on getting my money back after working on it.

I have a crazy ambition to make my own game. Would it be silly to pick up these (cheaply) for parts?
