Extremely nice X-Files for sale. Everything working well. The story behind this pin is that it was owned by a family and never been on route. There are certainly items that back that story, including the perfect looking coin door and the lock down bar still having the original START decal among other signs. The play field is excellent and the file cabinet works flawlessly. Ramps are very clear and smooth.

I’m asking $2750 but would also entertain trades for Black Rose, Bay Watch, or Road Show.

Thanks for kind words. It truly is a very nice example.
I simply have a Polk audio sub hooked up to really crank the X-Files music

Love this game, this one looks great. Can you post closeups of the top of the X too and the FBI pop-up? Those always seem to get wear. Oh, see the popup is visible on the magnet shot: it looks very clean. Is that a chip in playfield on Scully's cheek, or just defect in mylar?

The magnet wear is surprising though if it were HUO. It looks like it was mylared after that unfortunately - did you add that?

#9 5 years ago

The marks around Scully are simply in the Mylar. A guy could easily replace those. I thought they looked like sexy moles and left them

No wear on the X and the FBI scope is as good as it gets.

This machine has never had the metal piece put over the magnet by the file cabinet. I personally have not done a thing to the magnet area for multiple reasons: it looks great to me and also works perfectly.

#10 5 years ago

I'm just perplexed that it's overall as nice as it is, yet the magnet area is worn so much. Something doesn't add up: it seems it doesn't have the usual circle mylar piece over the magnet, but a custom one instead. Here's what that area should look like. I guess it is still better than the ugly metal flap that covers everything including the flasher in front of the cabinet.

I guess I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment that the magnet area is worn so badly. The pic you have above appears to me to be how it would look straight from the factory with zero plays, correct?
My understanding on X-Files, and please jump in and correct me if this is wrong, is that they realized really quickly that any magnet use in that area resulted in wear. So, all operators were sent a fix kit and instructed to put a thin metal piece over the magnet to avoid any wear. The area in question is quite smooth and the magnet grabs the ball when it should, so I’ve not given it a second thought.
Again, I appreciate the discussion.

Was looking more closely at the magnet and also wanted to point out that the post in the upper left area close to the file cabinet under the plastic appears to have come lose at some point and glued back in. I have attached a picture. The post is solid, is not in the way of the opto, and is completely covered by the plastic. But, wanted to be sure this was documented.

Yes, but mylar doesn't wear out that easily, it would take many more plays than your machine has had to eat through the mylar and cause that wear. IE. It's not only zero-play machines that look like that. That previous picture is from my machine that judging by the other wear, has many thousands more plays than yours, yet the mylar and magnet area is perfectly intact.

The examples of the machines I've seen always had the circular mylar, so I assume it's factory, but the magnet effect still caused it to wear relatively quickly and thus the metal cover was introduced. I just had a peek on IPDB and image #9540 shows the same circular mylar. You can tell that machine has also had a lot more play than yours: the cabinet flasher insert is significantly worn. So I'm speculating if for some reason yours didn't get that original mylar (very unfortunate), wore through even much more quickly than normal, and then someone put mylar over it. Is that mylar worn through, or is it covering over the wear spot?

It's one of my favorite games, so I am on the look out to upgrade to a mint condition one.

Here's the IPDB pic...

Anyone driving from South Dakota to Denver anytime soon? I would consider if I can find a way for transportation without using NAVL.

Cool looking game!! Good luck in the sale. I wish one of these would be near me so I could play one.
