I think the swat team is going to show up on this one.. not just a few price police cars.

#9 5 years ago

Never going to be a remake.

I'll be the price Police. For how much you are asking for that game you'd think you could include at least one good picture of the playfield?

Your both probably right as cgc likely will have a price increase. There is still a chance the classic addition is $6499 like it was for AFMr though.

Welcome to the new bay watch with 600 plays thread continued. When will you figure out just because you spent thousands restoring a game doesn’t mean that’s what it’s worth. That goes for real estate cars etc. You can spend thousands on a paint job but if you can get the same car without it for thousands less you’d be a fool to pay more. I guess there’s a sucker born every minute so you’ll sell to someone who prob loves this game and wants a nib experience or as close to it.

Just curious, for someone that wants a nib experience, loves this game and doesn't have the time or experience to do a restore themselves, why are they considered a sucker for buying this?

I think there are lots of people entering the hobby looking for the older games and do not want to work on them. They will pay a premium to get something fully restored to like new or better than new. It seems like that part of the market unsettled. If anyone puts the time to totally restore every part of the game they would realize the cost in time alone. What I don't understand is why bash the guy for trying to sell it for what feels it's worth? If it sits for months and never sells, why does it even matter? There could be someone trying to enter the hobby and wants a WCS in like-new condition so they never have to learn how to lift he playfield. I know the whole: money in doesn't equal money out, but can't blame him for trying.

I'm wondering if some of the "bashers" are actually trying to help out some of the newbies? When I first started I had zero idea of pricing (and still don't really know) but appreciated posters expressing a bad decision. I'm not trying to say this is a bad decision to purchase this machine, only that it falls far out of the norm - in both price and condition. When someone starts into this obsession they need a little guidance, or at least information/counter points.

If someone remembers playing this game as a kid and "has to have it" then they will have it. No amount of bitching, right or wrong, will stop that buyer.

The seller has clearly listed it in the forum for discussion as it stays near the top and gets views. I would find it hard to believe they didn't think it would turn out this way.

I also feel the Price Police are attempting to keep costs down on all used games. The market seems to have taken a sharp rise the past few years (according to posts) so maybe it is more of a preservation than an attack?

Here is the Pinside estimated value, the seller is not even in the ballpark. Of course, when was the last time a WCS94 looked this good?????? Maybe 1994?

Estimated value
$2310 - $2690

Just trying to see things from all views.

To me this is the unsettled part around here that I always hear. BTW this has nothing to do with the current game for sale but just general musings.
Whom cleared it? If it's john Q p spraying with a can in his yard, how much is his time worth? Because if you're not a pro it's not adding any value...and may be taking it away. Am I paying for the labor of you replacing the rubbers on a game? Because that aint worth much to me. You took out the bulbs and put LEDs in...what LEDs are they? Did you buy a kit that I'm paying for? Or bulk 100s Warm Whites that are pretty cheap?

Anyway, that's just another perspective when people see something like this.

We gotta talk aboot something around here. You know the drill, list it high, price police bump, price defenders bump, game ends up selling or not. It's a forum, there is important information on here is you can mine it....everything else is just people opinions.
Same shit diff'rent day.

Ok start at 2500 then do a full resto and see where you end up.

True. But at least subtle hints and not a full frontal attack. Most people are respectable. Always some that just bash.

So I agree with big ticket items like if you bought a new PF or you have a Kruzman PF or whatever.

But let's think aboot the answer to this. Lets say a new rubber kit translucent costs $100 (don't know at all just using a number) Now your 2500 game is worth how much? The same, +100 for parts, or +100+ because of time?

#39 5 years ago

Growing up, my dad owned an auto body shop...the guy who worked for him did old car restorations and also restored old tractors. A lot of the work was done around the shop when there were lulls in paying customers. They both told me many times...”spend a little extra and buy one that’s already done, cause you’ll never get back what you put into it.” So...in this case, both the buyer and the seller will meet somewhere between $3000 and the $6500 asking price. How close to either of these numbers will depend on which party is more desperate come handshake time.

Game looks fantastic. Good luck with sale...tough crowd around here! Haha!

Seller can say it's worth 3000 now, and the point is; I can pass on it. Or can bash the guy tell him what I think. Have fun with that.

Quoted from Tomass:

Well that's kind of the point. If you change rubbers and think you've added $500 your either ignorant, a scammer, or worse and some people are like you and think the market will work it out, and some people feel the need to respond to it.
The price police have their fun, people feel the need to bash the PP and feel like they're better, and then we talk aboot it some more as if it will ever change, and it won't.

amazingly the least affected (e?) person in all this is almost always the seller. He knows it's coming and he doesn;t seem too bothered...don't think he needs "saving."

#45 5 years ago
Quoted from Tomass:

Is this a full restore? Cabinet, new playfield, etc.? If so, may still be a bit high but understandable. If it doesn't have ALL of those things, I'd put the value at $3 5 to 4k.

#46 5 years ago

Sorry fellas.....I’m working and it’s hard to keep up...lol will be a bit more interactive when I get off work in an hour or so and will respond to some of these questions

#47 5 years ago

The part I love is when someone puts their own time into restoration and expects that their time was worth "x" amount of dollars. I get it if you send it to hep you might recoup most or all of the labor, but doing the work yourself doesn't automatically make your pin worth more. We do this for the love of the hooby no? This has nothing to do with the OP this is just where the thread is headed.

#48 5 years ago

No new ramps? Does look nice though.

#49 5 years ago

For all of the people bitching go find a cheaper highly restored WCS. We do not have close ups of the playfield yet but if its quality work you certainly are not going to be able to get one restored to this level cheaper then the asking price. I get that most people do not want a restored wcs but a few will and it will only takes 1 buyer.

There's also nothing wrong with trying to recoup part of your money and time spent on a restore. Yes some Joe blow putting on super bands isn't worth anything, but a skilled person doing a full restore certainly is.
