Williams Whirlwind Pinball Machine - very fun machine. The game works great! Things the game needs; a few bulbs need replacing, the contact in the cellar will sometimes hang up and require a little jiggle. The extra ball ramp can be a little sticky at times. Otherwise the game functions perfectly. Yes the fan works however The plastic shroud is cracked where it attaches to The box, see pictures. The game does have some cosmetic chips on the box of the upright display, see pictures. The upright glass and graphics are new. Some decals are worn on the play surface. 2600.00 OBO no shipping included. Buyer must arrange shipping. Price is open to suggestions. I will load more detailed pictures soon and can provide specifics upon request. Text only please or PM

"Price is open to suggestions."
Sorry to tell you bro, but this game is what we refer too as "thrashed" and in its current condition, isn't worth even half of what you're asking. I've seen many Whirlwinds in better condition go for $500-$600. Sorry to burst your boat bubble, but good luck with that.

#3 6 years ago

Sorry, theonlyest, I don't normally get involved with price policing, but there's no way this is a $500-600 game. Whirlwind has always been rather desirable, and with the re-release of new playfields, the wear seen here is more or less of a non-issue to those willing to restore.

#4 6 years ago

You're probably going to want to list some better pictures of the playfield to help you get more interest. The condition of the playfield (with the glass off) is a major thing people are interested in seeing.

#5 6 years ago

$500-600 No but $2600 no way either.

Cut the guy a break man. Clearly he is not a collector hence the new member listing. His listing also says OBO. Why so much hostility and BS?

I will tell you I have seen ones in this condition sell for over 2k. THe game would look 10xs better with a good cleaning, and about $100 in parts. GLWS

Do they make decals for the compass?

I'll second though, need a lot of pictures of the playfield with glass off, showing all wear spots.

Pinside puts the game at 2.2-2.5, so with something this worn 2.6 is definitely off

Quoted from zacaj:

They do. Classic Arcades has the kind that are printed under the lamination, so you don't technically need to clear coat over them.

This is in no way, worth 2K. Are you serious????? Id pay about 800 for a Whirlwind in this shape, as would 95% of everyone here that reads this. Good grief!

Not saying I would pay that or agree with value but I have personally watched this game sell in similar condition for 2k at pinball shows and was surprised too. When was the last time you saw a working ww sell for under 800 on pinside?

#11 6 years ago

If the price goes to 1800, I'm sure someone will be all over it. More detailed pics will only drive the value down even more. $2600 is too high, even for pinside.

As much as I agree with the sentiment, the pinside market history alone doesn't show a single WW under $2k. Not sure if you made it to pintastic, but I blinked a bit when I saw the price on the trashed one there (no offense 'stang), and blinked again as it was gobbled up. Granted I think that one was in better condition than this, and I think they were asking 2 even, obo? Even for $1200 I'd be in my car right now...

Oh, interesting... With the amount of other wear and dirt I think I'd still end up doing some touch up and clear anyway, but cool thing to have

Exactly

#14 6 years ago

Those who wouldn't pay more than $1k for this are the ones that would; and then have it up on CL for double what they paid, the minute they got it home.

I bet it sells for right around $2k. This could be a fine game with some TLC.
Good luck with the sale OP.

#15 6 years ago

I sold an Earthshaker at a show earlier this year that literally looked like it had survived an earthquake for $1400. It played 100% and had some LEDs but had major playfield wear and the cab was trashed. WW is more popular than Earthshaker and is definitely in higher demand.

This game is $2K+ all day long. The OP could do himself a favor and hit it with a little magic eraser, some new rings, a blue sharpie and spinner decals. It does say (OBO) so put down your pitchforks.

#16 6 years ago

Entertaining variety of replies! Thanks everyone for your input. As someone who only plays pinball and doesn't know a whole lot about pinball machines, or the collectors market, I had to post my game to find out what the market will offer for such an item. Knowing the world to be full of chiselers I had to start off with a price above what I expect to get. I am excited about all of the interest and I look forward to passing the game along. For anyone interested in specific pictures please feel free to ask. Remember I am not as wizard so speak lay person.

I mean come on people. A system 11 board set is worth $500-600 all freaking day long. This place is getting ridiculous. No one on earth is buying a whirlwind on a pinball site for $500. You may find one from an old op for that but you are not coming on a pinball site and buying one for anywhere less that $1800. It's just not happening. I bought my whirlwind in similar condition for $750 three years ago. I drove an hour instantly to get it and by the time I got there the guy had 15 voice mails of people trying to buy it out from under me. That was THREE YEARS AGO!!!! Sorry for the rant but my God. This is place out of hand sometimes

GLWTS op!!! You won't get $2600 but I guarantee someone will give you $2000 for it. Throw it up on craigslist. Your email will explode

#18 6 years ago

Here's a picture of mine with the Classic Arcades Insert decals installed. And one of my topper (you can barely see the topper, but it's the only pics i have...it was BAAAAD) with new Decals too. FYI my game was as dirty/bad if not worse then the OP's when i got it. It took a LOT of cleaning, time and love, but it wasn't horribly expensive to get it to where it is in these pictures.

My topper was cracked too. I repaired it with bondo, painted it with White epoxy appliance paint, painted the screen silver and installed new cloud decals (which i think you can still buy). New Clear Posts, new bumper bodies, new flippers etc.

My point is mine was just as bad, and ended up looking nearly new for what was mainly time on my end. His game isn't as thrashed as it looks, mainly dirty and insert wear (which may of just been a case of someone removing the Mylar incorrectly and lifting all the graphics). Yeah the starting price is high, but the OP seems to be aware of that that. The PF just looks dirty for the most part. And if you take the time to remove what's left of the clear coat/letters on the inserts with a tiny flat head screwdriver and patience (like i did) the decals come out looking REALLY good.

IMO $1800 would be a solid price in this condition. And with time about 2-400 in new parts you can have a REALLY nice Whirlwind for as little as $2000!

If you think his price is too much, then don't buy it, it's that simple! No need to get your blood pressure up over it.

If i hadn't just snatched up a Taxi I'd be first in line to try to work out a deal!

He did say price is open to suggestions, which sounds like a humble guy admitting he may have priced it wrong. No need to jump all over him. For my money, though, this is the best line in the ad:

"the contact in the cellar will sometimes hang up and require a little giggle"

Indeed...

Well, the upside of all this nonsense is, I now know that my minty Whirlwind is worth at least 10 grand!!

I do have a minty Roy Clark The Entertainer I'd consider parting with in a trade. Cash on your end, of course.

Let me know.

Your PF is pretty much showing wear all over the place. Many inserts are worn down to the plastic, and has sharpie on the Bonus X inserts. There's wood showing around the spinner discs, and potentially worn down to the wood in other places (right orbit?). Spinner discs will have to be installed as well. The scoops need cliffy's, the ramps need to be completely cleaned, there are broken plastics, and each and every rubber will need replacement. The amount of dirt shown should alert all buyers to the (lack of) level of care this has had over the years.

The backbox is banged up just about everywhere. The topper is broken at the connection points and yellowed.

I've passed on nicer WW's for less money. If someone sober is actually offering you $1800, I'd take it and run as this is probably a project just to get it playing correctly, and then the PF and cabinet will still look like crap.

I am not trying to be a prick or anything but you know good and well you told a new poster that is clearly not a pinhead that a fully working whirlwind was worth $500. That's a jerk move. You don't have to admit your wrong. I'll do it for you. That is the only nonsense I've seen around here.

In his defense this thing is a complete and utter piece of shit.

Can't blame a guy for trying to get his paper though. And with enough d-wagons rolling in saying the deal isn't that bad it just spurs people on.

Not sure how the market is out there, but this would go for his asking price here. Everything has gotten inflated.

Oh no doubt. One of the nicest 11's out there, when taken care of and clean. FFS, this one even has batteries that look like they came free with the cable remote. Helen Keller even called this example ugly. $1800 is lining OP's pockets with multiple extra $100 bills that no one on this site would pay.

Congrats on owning a minty whirlwind!! It's my favorite game of all time and you are absolutely right, This game is not worth $2600. Continuing on, your minty whirlwind is not a $2500 game. It's is worth quite a deal more than that. I highly doubt you cut it loose for that am I right?!?! Using your logic, minty whirlwinds are $2500 games. See my point

I'm saying your post insinuates to a nonpinhead that these games are readily available at $500-600 and in FACT they are not. Insinuating that these are available for that is insulting to new members and I kind of thought the idea of pinball sites were to encourage the hobby. Not just say "hey, your a DA and your game is a POS." So yeah in my book it's a dick move. Sorry bout it.

I bought a fish tales two weeks ago for $800 with barely any fade, fully working. I am not insinuating to anyone that it is an $800 game. I wouldn't sell it for that. Everyone in this site would have bought it instantly for that. It's not an $800 game. Every $500 working whirlwind is bought within minutes of posting. Regardless of condition.

You can get pissy all you want to about it. Just telling you the way you're coming off

Seriously where do you find these $800 dollar FT deals?! While we are at it I'd like info on the $500 WW's as well.

They are out there...but rarer by the day. I passed on a $600 HS a year or 2 ago because I had just bought a clunker and didn't want another to combine them. Ended up being like the nicest HS I've seen since the 80s Sometimes you get'em and sometimes you miss them.

This a statement of fact...
I've seen many Whirlwinds in better condition go for $500-$600..... YES!!!! I HAVE!!!!!!

This is an insinuation...
You can buy a Whirlwind anywhere, all-day for $500-$600..... A completely ridiculous and false insinuation!!

I have never seen a nice working FT sell for $800, but apparently you have, so that must make you a dick too for telling us you did!

#47 6 years ago

I've bought all kinds of games for all kinds of prices. If it makes me a dick then I guess I'm a dick.

Misquoted, insinuated, assumed.... it's whatever man. No one is selling whirlwind for $500 on a regular basis. When they do they are sold instantly and apparently are bought up real quick by all the pinball dicks like me. If you see $500 whirlwinds you don't want send them my way if you don't care. I'd buy them all for that. Working or not honestly. My point being that parts of a working machine are worth a grand easy. I think the game will sell around $2000. Pinball prices are ridiculous right now. I'm not saying I'd buy it for that. I wouldn't. But that's me.

Im not getting into a internet fight with you lol. It's pointless. I'm not saying you didn't get one for $500. I'm not saying you haven't seen them for that. I'm not calling you a dick. I'm not saying anything about your opinion even other than it could be presented to the guy in a different manner. Just tell him his price is off. That's all.

I love how people who have no interest in an item will take time out of their day to write negative posts. Must be a pretty boring day...
Thanks again to those who have shown positive interest and to those who have offered constructive advice.

It's a forum, dude.

When a game is an overpriced turd, you should expect that this fact might come up when discussing the game.

Put me in the "take $1800 and run" camp. Assuming the guy actually shows up with $1800 and it doesn't turn into a $1300 offer.

Let me know.
