This may seem like a dumb question, but why does the cliffy protector over the arcade hole have a gap in it? Seems like the rolling ball would damage the wood there. But maybe it's so the protector doesn't interfere in ball movement.

That Cliffy sure is smart.
Quoted from Mudflaps:The original Cliffy didn’t have that notch, but a slow ball to the skill shot would hang on the lip of the protector. He added the notch to eliminate the hang up.
