Quoted from Bud:

Magic girl, deeproot and predator were fake too, but a lot of people fell for it too.

Thanks for the heads up. I have messaged the OP about this. If it is indeed a fake ad, he risks a 6 months marketplace ban. Because I hate fake ads

This is a new policy?

If so, it is welcome.

My vote for best for sale ad

"it was a real ad"

"then have your buyer send me a message confirming"

"i sold it off pinside"

"then send me a pic of you with the machine"

"i can't the buyer already took it home with him"

how exactly would you prove an ad is fake?

In this case, the price and description were enough to do a 0.1 second litmus test.

Received the game today, definitely not worth $7,500. However, there are 5 pop bumpers and 4 flippers so that's a plus. Very smooth gameplay, shoots like butter.

He would still have a $12000 transaction on his bank or card within a weeks time that could show its value.

The user has multiple post bashing the game after the reveal and before pre-orders went live. He then posts an ad without any pictures of a game he said looks like garbage for $4500 under Msrp. Everything else he has ever tried to sell has been reasonably price and has pictures.

Pinside is a privately ran website. They can do what ever they want. They can ban you and I without any justification if they really wanted to. They are giving him the benefit of the doubt, but at this point it is up to him to prove this is real, not Pinside to prove that it is fake.

This isn't a court case.

Did the clear start bubbling around the posts yet? Does it have pin stadiums?

#63 55 days ago

hey, when it "sells" he will have to pay the pinside fee... and will still get the ban.

I'd make that a bit more severe than just a marketplace ban if I was you. I think the punishment should also include a 30 day vacation.

Again, is this an actual policy around here?

“Hilarious” joke ads have been the bread and butter of clever raconteurs around here for years. How else are you supposed to sarcastically draw attention to the fact that pinball machines have become more expensive, or that a game is - in fact - NOT good? And how else are you supposed to express yourself on April 1?

The only answer? Joke ad. It’s the only form of expression witty enough to convey the importance of The topic being thrust into the spotlight, and there’s a long, glorious history of consequence-free applications of this amazing rhetorical device.

As far as I know there’s no policy against it, and nobody has ever been punished for it. So where is all this talk of one to six month bans coming from?

Sounds like a bunch of cop callers in here!Grown ass men all bent out of shape over a pinball machine classified!

I’ll buy it at $7500 for the actual game delivered.

robin maybe a small upfront fee for posting ads would minimize this behavior?

Punishing 99% of the real ads with a fee is not the answer.

I think for what these pins are selling for, and how many get suspiciously sold offsite or archived, a small upfront fee serves a lot of purpose. Maybe $25? Idk. A tiny percentage of average pin sale. And you could take it off the back end sold fee? Just some ideas.

Err before we start charging people to place ads just to stop fake ads, how about first creating a rule that says you can’t make fake ads and see if that works?

Like, maybe an authority figure around here could post a sticky saying “please don’t post fake ads, even as a joke.” And…I’m spitballing here…when you place an ad there could even be a note saying “please make sure you actually have a game for sale, and aren’t doing this as a joke, critique, or political statement.”

I know. These are crazy ideas. But these are crazy times.
