Quoted from gmkalos:I think this game is a better investment than gold!
It is a really stupid investment.
Spending $21,000 on a pinball machine is an emotional purchase, not an intelligent one.
Quoted from pinlawyer:Given what's happened to DP, time will tell.
Time doesn't make any difference that you need a buyer who is emotionally charged by this game, not someone who is smart with money.
In this transaction at $21,000 (if it sells), you are the one smart with money, not the buyer.
Your buyer should want a TBL more than any desire to make money on his purchase and then his satisfaction is guaranteed.
And if he's lucky and the price goes up, all the better. But as an investment, it's an incredibly stupid option.
Quoted from whthrs166:This is an opinion not a fact. The fact is: no one knows whether it is a good investment or bad. (Unless you can predict the future) The other fact is there are many in this world that have 20k in their left front pocket.
I said "smart" investment, not "good" investment. It's different.
You need to be more lucky than smart to make money buying a pinball machine.
Quoted from whthrs166:I have been making money buying and selling games for about 12 years now and so have many others. Sure some have been extraordinarily fortunate but some have even made a living at it
Totally agree with all of this. I've made money on some games too. But people who pay $21,000 will have a tough time making a living at it.
Quoted from whthrs166:The people that have taken huge risks buying games like TBL should "have their day in sand". It just is a huge shame that all of the people that bought into DP cant cash in...
I have no problem that the OP is taking advantage of his good fortune that DP failed.
Quoted from Mr68:People with no personal involvement feel the need to control how strangers should behave
Nobody's controlling anyone's behavior. It's a forum where people are just sharing their opinions. Most have no personal involvement.
One should anticipate there'd be some discussion on this. To avoid it, it's best to avoid posting on the forum.
Quoted from Mr68:Extremely common on Pinside is people defending or promoting values on the titles they personally own.
For a guy who just sold TBL for $20k, isn't that kind of what you're doing right now?
Quoted from Mr68:I no longer own it. Please read my full quote.
Yeah, I got that you sold it.
You missed my point.
Quoted from pinlawyer:If I wanted this pin GONE, I'd have priced it at $15,000. But I don't. I love it, I play it, and I'm not in any rush to sell it. Nor is anyone else who owns one, apparently. Because one priced at $20,500, $20,000, or $15,000 hasn't popped up. THAT's evidence of market value, people.
Nobody thinks you want this game gone.
We think you want to squeeze the most cash that you possibly can from it.
Evidence of market value is what people pay, not what people ask.
I'm sure you will sell this game eventually. Glwts.
A woman was at the doctor's office getting blood work before her upcoming marriage.
She confided in the doctor, "this is will be my 3rd marriage, and I'm nervous because I'll be having sex for the first time."
The doctor was confused, responding, "I don't understand how it will be your first time since you've been married twice before."
The woman answered, "well, my first husband was a psychologist, and all he wanted to do was talk about it.
My second husband was a gynecologist, and all he wanted to do was look at it.
But this guy is a lawyer, so I know I'm gonna get fucked."
Quoted from taimaster2005:Congrats on the sale pending, Greg! I hope these get made again one day
Well that would really fuck the guy who just dropped $21,000 buying Greg's game.
Quoted from rvdv:By the way Look at what Supreme does, omg
Plenty of people with plenty of play money to spend.
All comes down to income and passion
It alll comes down to wealth and how one determines prestige.
Exact same thing as modern art. It's what it represents, not what it is.
