The platinum and diamond edition Beatles experiment was a consequence of Stern's limited Supreme pinball machine fetching astronomical prices. As I recall, Supreme production was limited to 100 games, like The Beatles Diamond.
It turned out that buyers of The Beatles, for the most part, are older and arguably more circumspect than Supreme purchasers. Thus, the experiment failed.
Nevertheless, The Beatles Gold is fantastic and the existence of virtually identical platinum and diamond varieties likely make the gold editions more desirable, at their lower price point.
