I think a previous owner might have used the hole for a cable lock or some other kind of anti intrusion alarm.
It's just the right size to thread my phone charging cable through so I found no reason to cover it. A simple rubber plug would be a good cover.

It appears so. Also front right looks like there are some scratches near that drilled hole.

Correct, but only on the right front corner. The rest of the box has no external screws showing. I have the art files and had planned on having another print made of the front but they were minor enough that I decided it wasn't necessary for me. The box feels solid as a rock.
I just noticed my pictures of the play field don't show the T1000 mod. I picked the color model up new from Pinball_Customs here on the forum. It does a nice job catching the eye at the center of the play field. He does great work.
Nice looking T2. Was the first pinball machine I ever played as a kid.
