Game - for sale

For sale: Spirit

Added: 2020-02-26 23:00:00 UTC • Re-listed: 2 times (September 12th, 2020) • Ended: July 30th, 2021
Condition: Functional - needs minor work

Price

$ 7,500 (OBO)

Open for offers

Home use since 1984. Recently discovered. Sample game paperwork.
Folder with price cards, warranty, manual, tech inserts and other cool items like return mailers that were never sent. Serial # 01003. Good condition.

The good:

The motor is running like a champ, great stereo sound, displays are all fully working, flippers, slingshots, eject holes, stargate, GI lights, controlled lights are all working as intended. Plastics look great. Nice and clean inside. New rottendog power supply installed. Added the suggested extra ground and 5v wires on the interconnect cable.

Issues:

Pop bumper not working. Upper rightmost drop target is not registering and will trigger phantom scoring. A few switches in the same column as the upper rightmost drop target switch are flakey as well. Still troubleshooting.

There is a touched up and sealed wear spot behind the nose on the backglass.

The playfield does have some swirling in areas and a light wear as seen in pics.

Check the pics for all angles. If there is something you want better pics of or you'd like to schedule a live video tour please let me know.

This will be fun to watch. A rare pin and hard to find in the USA (they do pop up from time to time).

#3 4 years ago

Was this the one previously posted for 10k in Chicago?

#4 4 years ago

If I was paying $12,000, I'd at least want new rubbers..

I’d at least want it functioning properly.

I was wondering that too, but that one had some wear by the center score insert and this one doesn't appear to have it.

No it's a different game. I'm still trying to bargain with that one in Chicago but not expecting to get very far with it. From what I can tell a lot of spirits ended up in private collections more so than other Sys80a games. No real facts to prove this other than the low production numbers and the amount of games sold and posted that claim to be HUO or something of the like.

Insane to think a $12k asking price for a game that isn't 100%

nice, glad its going for a somewhat reasonable price. He told me he would take 8k for it way back when he first posted it.

Yeah the guy who posted it was his son and he gave me his fathers number and his father told me $8k and I could have it. He said he paid $600 for it when he bought it back in the day from his friend. A few days ago the guy texted me and said he sold it for $8k

Nice original condition. Game play on this game is spectacular.

#16 4 years ago

is this the same one that was 12,400 on facebook. There were a lot of price pumpers in that thread.

Have to wonder if Rob, baller88, bought the Chicago one for $8K and is now selling it for around $10K.

will need new cabinet and playfield as well to justify asking price, IMO...

#24 3 years ago

I offer $4k cash. Can pick up tomorrow.

#25 3 years ago

I offered this person $6k cash a while ago after calling out all of the board problems, playfield problems, and cabinet problems. Got some really flimsy answers that read along the lines of "I've read 2 pinside articles about sys80 games" and then the seller blocked me on FB...

Curious what will happen with this one.

It will sit. Outrageous price given junk condition.

The price might be high and the market will decide that (seems like it might be since it’s not moving) but why would you say it’s junk? I mean it has some playfield wear, backglass wear, some scrapes and a few Issues but I’d consider it a nicer players machine that needs a little work but not junk

#28 3 years ago

Bottom line... rare machine that's (still) overpriced. FWIW, the OP did lower the price a bit. It would've sold by now if it was priced right. For comparison, I bought a Spirit for less than asking prices less than two years ago. Fully working, great looking Spirit with much better cabinet.

Sure but buying something from GAP (a known retailer) in nice condition is way different than someone who gets a game in on consignment to their comic book shop in a mediocre state, then just starts swapping boards out of nowhere when something doesn't work and causing more damage (notice the amount of damage that's been caused just in the selling period) and blabbering about "ground issues".

Agree. Good points. GAP. have me a very fair price. The OP is clearly overpriced (LOTS of touch up on the cab too).
