This is still one of the most underrated games out there. They don't change hands much because it is a PERFECT pin for a home collection. Owners always hold on to them for a long time!

They do? There has been 19 sold in the last 8 months. https://pinside.com/pinball/market/classifieds/archive?s=1&ad_machine_key=486

I attribute it to the price going up a lot on this title as people are discovering its value through spending more time playing it in the pandemic. There are just a few titles that have outperformed others significantly. This is one of them.

The value has skyrocketed as well. When I first got into the hobby you could find a players shadow for less than $2k and it was not that long ago you could get one for $2500. Now they are pushing white water money.

U see that badly planked players wh20 sell for 5500 very quickly recently? Fully restored ones are 10k + now and hep ones are fetching 12-16k. Crazy times lol..

Definitely the most overpriced pinball in the hobby.

I think all/most b/w pins are super overpriced at the moment and have been for years.... but they are selling so apparently they are not lol.

nice looking game with sale pending as expected. Is " near HUO" a new category?

Is " near HUO" a new category?

sure. Just be sure to offer "near asking price".

    #21 1 year ago

The new translite package singlehandedly doubled the price of these games. It just looks like a film noir era comic book now. Add some green LEDs and the game has a better art package than new Sterns.

Near HUO, with lock bar holes and all.

    #23 1 year ago

As a Shadow owner I approve of this sale! As a cheap ass...God damn this is getting wacky.

Lock bar holes came with the game when new. Along with a bar across the coin door. Started with AFM.

    Didn’t know that!

Shadow is a killer game for sure. I prefer the original artwork, just because.

Also the generational hatred for Alec Baldwin seems to have subsided, he’s done a lot of great work and has assaulted fewer reporters the last decade.

I was wrong. AFM was the first game I had that came with them.

Somebody did a good job on the holes then. Same spots as Williams used on later games.

Disclaimer : Sorry for mucking up a for sale ad with a great price.

    #33 1 year ago

To further the lock bar holes. It would seem Congo was the first Williams pin to come from the factory with the lock bar.

I apologize for any confusion I started and interrupting a for sale thread.

That's ok. Clearly none of us had anything better to do today, as evidenced by hanging out in a for sale thread for a game nobody here is buying.

Thats impossible, the game is already pending. Even the best of us (and yes thats you) has a hitch in his get along once in awhile.

i bought 2 of them in 2016 for 2500 each. no sanctum wear on either.

Nice work! That was well below market price for a Shadow with no sanctum wear in 2016 (or 2013 for that matter, when I bought mine).

I firmly believe that if The Shadow had a theme like pulp fiction, planet of the apes, or something of the like...it would be $8,000.

I personally love the theme because I grew up with it...but that is quite literally the ONLY thing that keeps it from costing way, WAY more.

I love the theme too, saw The Shadow several times at the drive-in the summer it came out. And couldn't have been happier it was an affordable B/W when I got into the hobby!

It been on my list forever, loved the reruns on radio as a kid, it is such a great pin. The Aurich package just makes it so much better getting rid of the movie translite. I'll manage to get my hands on one eventually.

    #41 1 year ago

Brian Eddy has only designed 5 games. They are all great but this one rates the lowest. Why? Because of the flop movie associated with it and some questionable art. In reality (at least for me) it is his masterpiece. I rather play this over his other titles. Simply a great and original game.

Most people I know rate the game highly.

I think the “bomb movie factor” is a distant memory. Nobody holds that shit against Congo anymore, it’s 30 years later now.

Could you imagine a remake!! I’ve owned multiple love them! That was back when they were a steal at $2500 5 plus years ago.

    #46 1 year ago

Here is the irony of The Shadow. If you replace the original translite with the Aurich upgrade it becomes one of the coolest looking b/w games.

I had mine restored with black powder coat and black nickel habitrails and pistol… and it is probably my best looking game. It just looks mean.
