In my view, there is nothing that can be removed without missing it. Well, maybe the star map, but that's not a trouble spot.
Maybe the parts are expensive/hard to get, but I don't think any of the mechs are poorly designed and troublesome in their own right. I really think the bulk of issues came down to basic QC checks being skipped before boxing.
Some of the issues I've experienced, for example, could have been caught if someone plunged a single ball, or ran a switch test. That is what ought to be resolved (and may well BE resolved by now already.) Not removing mechs.
