It doesn't really matter where the plays came from, but based on the info you've laid out and the audit pictures that used to be attached to the ad, she couldn't have played it much. Like you said, no one knew how to get into the machine to reset audits or update code.
There's just no chance it was new when they bought it. It didn't come out of a box with those legs. Again, not that it matters.
