1977 Bally Mata Hari Solid State Pinball Machine with chimes for sale $1,600 firm. Local pickup only. The backglass has a few minor scratches, but no flaking. The playfield has a few worn spots and some planking, but is in great shape compared to others I’ve seen. There is also very minor hazing on some of the playfield from magic eraser, but it’s not very noticeable with the glass on. Left lane 50,000 light stopped working recently, and the left 100 bumper apron is chipped. Other than that, it works great, is super fast, and is a blast to play! I bought a Pin*Bot and now I need to part with this beautiful machine (my wife has never been a fan of the art work).
I am the third Owner and it has been a home use only machine since the early 80s. The previous Owner bought it from an Illinois operator friend in the early 80s (still has a piece of the gambling license on the side). In the mid-90s he moved with his family to the UK and had it wired for use in Europe. They loved the machine and wrote hi-scores around the backbox trim whenever the rolled the display (kinda cool). They moved back in 2000 where it sat unused in his basement for 15 years, still wired for UK power. I acquired it in the summer of 2015, when I began to restore it.
The following was done by me in addition to cleaning the heck out of it:
Removed everything from the playfield except bumpers & Flippers
Cleaned and waxed playfield
Removed ball swirls with magic eraser and naptha
Replaced bumper caps and all drop targets
Rewired Transformer for US power
New varistor and plug
Replaced cabinet and backbox locks with matching locksets (4 keys available)
Oven heated warped plastics to lay flat and pressed with glass
Replaced rubbers
Replaced all blubs (44s above playfield, 47s below and in backbox)
Tumbled all metal pieces
Cleaned all plastics
Replaced ball
Replaced nylon acorn nuts with stainless steel
New bally sticker on the coin door
Machine still didn’t work because of battery corrosion, so I took it to Main Street Amusements in Lafayette where Dan went through the whole machine and brought it back to life in July of 2017 (said it’s the nicest he’s seen):
New Ultimate Alltek MPU (no more battery needed!)
Replaced connector housings and repined connectors
Rebuilt high voltage section of voltage regulator / solenoid driver board
Replaced filter cap on voltage regulator /solenoid driver board
Added Ground Mods to voltage regulator/driver board
Desoldered/resoldered header pins on all displays
Repaired cracked solder joint on lamp driver board
Replaced coils on both drop targets
