Item description
Here goes:
1981 Stern Lightning.
Very nice shape overall, playfield protectors installed (not by me). backglass looks nice and is pretty robust but has some flaking (have not attempted to triple thick).
Inserts have cupping, but are all original and look like new.
I purchased DOA, put a lot of time and effort into bringing back to life.
All switches cleaned, 3 new balls, flippers rebuilt, plugs cleaned, drop targets removed and cleaned, solder joints reflowed, LED’s installed in playfield. Will come with incandescent bulbs if you prefer.
Has been play tested the past few months in the house, plays like a charm every time, and is a lot of fun. This game is somewhat “rare” (lol) with only 2350 made. I’d never seen nor heard about it until I picked it up.
Known issues:
1. some tech replaced the DC rectifier in an “odd way”, works totally fine, left it alone. Will point it out when you come see it.
2. Cabinet had some separation (pics included). Clamped, glued and secured- possible it had been roughly moved? Not sure, I move machines only one way, the “right” way.
3. 2 of the 5 player score displays are likely on their way out. Although I think one may be repairable. I moved the weak ones to players 3 and 4. The others are bright and trouble free!
4. Somehow, I think the rom was flashed to be free play forever by some ambitious tech. There are no settings for free play on this machine, although there are never ending credits. Press start and go.
Long description, but I believe in full disclosure. Overall, this game is totally playable and in really nice shape despite the issues stated above.
Make offer or willing to trade +cash for post 1987 Williams or Data East/Sega pin.
Think ‘Taxi’, ‘Guns n roses’ pretty much anywhere in between that era and beyond
