Game - for sale

For sale: HEP Medusa

Condition: Fully restored (full original status)

$ 7,900 (Firm)

Price is firm

This is my HEP restored Medusa. Chris did this restoration work for me back in 2016. Here is a link to the incredible work that Chris undertook bringing this game back to life:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/hep-medusa-restore

I’d like the extra space for the hopefully upcoming Venom release, so cash is preferred but I’d take a couple things in on trade: White Water, TOTAN, a blinged out CREECH, Deadpool Premium, Cactus Canyon, and Guardians of the Galaxy any model +/- cash. Any trade would need to be semi local where we could drive.

The game has one frustrating issue you will see in the photos. The coin door does not close the entire way to be perfectly flush against the machine. The door does close and it does lock (so it’s perfectly functional as a coin door), but it is not perfectly flush. The reason for this is back in 2015 when CPR ran these playfields (this is a CPR gold) they didn’t size the Medusa playfield perfectly, the playfield was just ever so slightly larger than the original. If someone was motivated to shave down a little bit of the playfield they could fix this issue that has plagued this machine.

The powder coat on one of the legs has a scratch also. I’d recommend getting some touch up paint from Chris on that front or put that leg on the back of the machine like I have done.

I’m happy to do a game play video with interested purchasers, but the video would need to be sometime between 8am-5pm as I keep this game at my office and not at my house. The game plays great and is brutally fast.

I will only take cash or a check, sorry no PayPal or similar method will be considered. If payment is made via a check the check must clear before the game is picked up (and there is a difference between funds being available and a check clearing).

I’m fine with having the game picked up by a shipper but buyer must make all arrangements. I cannot pallet. It is easy in and easy out to get the machine, it is on the first floor.

Woah baby, that is nice! It’s gorgeous in person, too, and priced very fairly. Good luck, Medusa is awesome!

#3 1 year ago

Looks gorgeous! Medusa is a strange and beautiful game. If I was going to own this game a second time this would be it! GLWTS!!

#4 1 year ago

Saw some of the restoration back when it was being done and it is just stunning but how in the heck did HEP ever let it out of the shop with the door not being able to fully close???

#5 1 year ago
Quoted from Pinsrgrt:

HEP is great. It closed flush when it arrived to me from his shop originally. It stopped closing flush shortly after I had it. I sent it back to HEP, he fixed it and sent it back to me, then it stopped closing flush again. It closes and locks now just fine (it always has), just not perfectly flush against the machine, see photo for how it closes.

Better built and better priced than a NIB!

I'm curious- why didn't HEP shave down the playfield? This is a great deal for this regardless, but that question nags me...

#8 1 year ago

I have absolutely no complaints with HEP or his phenomenal work on this game, it plays great and it looks great. I am simply making a disclosure about the coin door for the eventual buyer's knowledge...I'm not trying to solve the mystery of why CPR didn't size the reproductions playfields perfectly on this title...it's pinball and a millimeter or two can make a difference, these things happen and I have no issue with it.

This Medusa is a superb top 1% example of this game.

Couldn't You just put spacers between front of cab and coin door?

#10 1 year ago
Quoted from sepins:

Couldn't You just put spacers between front of cab and coin door?

Did that, didn't work (though it was a good idea). Too much pressure would cause the shield of the gods not to fire reliably...having a fully functional shield of the gods was more important to me than the optics of the door having that space in it when it is closed and locked.

#11 1 year ago

Damn, if my Flash Gordon was ready to sell I might be tempted to come get this. Surprised you are selling, I remember you were excited to get it.

Yep, this is the longest lasting game in my collection other than my Doctor Who and Star Trek. Never thought I’d part with it.

I didn’t have any issues with it myself.
I restored the game six years ago anytime it left here it left with the coin door closing. I can’t babysit them the rest of my life but I always try to be helpful if something pops up.
Medusa is a unique game. The playfield sets much lower in the cabinet. It just barely clears the coin chutes.
Sometimes if you replace this ,powdercoat that things get even tighter and what might be very minor for me can seem major to someone else.
There are lots of easy ways to make adjustments but I wouldn’t want to do anything that looks rough .
The door has and will close well again Bally doors like that can be a pain though.

#14 1 year ago

I also meant to say that this is a great deal.
If I had a Medusa here in wait I would buy this and repack it myself.

#15 1 year ago

It is a beautiful game that is a blast to play. GLWS

#16 1 year ago

The game is still available.

PavBall and I would also take on trade a really nice example of either a LOTR (LE or regular) or Transformers LE +/- cash as needed.

Straight cash is still preferred, of course.

#17 1 year ago

Adding another game to the potential trade list: Avengers Premium or LE, +\- cash as necessary.

#18 1 year ago

This game is stunning in person. Tiger is both a good guy and honest seller with many transactions under his belt.

Buy with complete confidence.

#19 1 year ago

Beautiful game and while I don’t have OCD, the door not fully closing on that level of restoration would drive me to it! All that being said, this is a crazy low price given what all was done to it in the restoration by HEP!

#20 1 year ago

Holy moly. Gorgeous.

#21 1 year ago

Gorgeous game! I just got mine up and running recently. Wondering what the 3M tape on top of the drops is for?

#22 1 year ago
Quoted from Spitfiren8:

Wondering what the 3M tape on top of the drops is for?

The clear coat is incredible on this game, very thick and nicely done. It was so thick that occasionally the ball would hang up on the drop targets (slow moving ball to an already down drop target would just get caught) and Bally's from that era do not ball search the drops...so the tape gives it the extra height to make the ball hang ups not occur...the ball just rolls right back into play and functions great.

Having a fabulous clear coat on a machine is really nice, sometimes it does result in needing to have very minor practical tweaks. There are other solutions, but the 3M tape was the easiest one and within my skill set to do. Many would just make the game a bit steeper, that also works, but I like the side to side action...

#23 1 year ago

Not to derail, but the next owner can add a magnetic strip to the bottom of the mech. It will allow the drops to sit even with the thicker CPR playfield.

On my Centaur, the base plate on the 1-2-3-4 drop targets is adjustable. On my EBD 1-7 drop target assembly, it isn't. Both of those games have a new CPR playfield that caused the occasional ball hang up in those two areas. On EBD, I used a nylon zip tie about 1/16" thick, and that solved the issue perfectly, plus it was the exact length for that drop bank! I'm LOVIN the magnetic tape idea though, and I'll pick some up. Thanks for the tip!

Great deal here for a HEP restore.

That is absolutely brilliant. I wish I would have thought about that solution.

The machine is more beautiful in person then in the pictures. The finish is amazing. The seller is a great guy whom with you can buy with confidence.

#29 1 year ago

Bargain of the year here....can't believe this is still for sale.

#30 1 year ago

Why does it appear the front leg stance has such a wide angle? I’m looking down my Bally row and none of them look like that. Maybe that puts a strain on the cabinet which does not allow the coin door to full close? In any event, bump for a beautiful game at a fantastic price!

It does look odd but I am thinking it's just at the angle for which he took the pic

#32 1 year ago

Price drop. Come pick this gorgeous game up, I need the space in about a month.

#33 1 year ago

Price lowered again, come pick this beauty up. We are now at the price where if this game doesn’t sell I’m going to put it in storage at the end of the month. I would really like to see this game in someone’s home rather than in my temperature controlled storage unit.

Yes, I resisted Tiger selling this game for the last year. We now find ourselves with too many games. We have a Valhalla waiting to take this slot.

#39 1 year ago

Absolutely blows my mind that this is still available because if I had the space and cash right now I would have bought this day #1.

I’ve recommended Tiger to pull the ad, store the game, and re-list it next year sometime.

#41 1 year ago

I still play my Medusa all the time. For a 1 ball game, there’s a ton to do and the art is fantastic.

I’d also recommend the NB2 board from France. With this, you can upload your own soundtrack and sound effects. I have mine playing the original Clash of the Titans soundtrack along with Game of Thrones, 300, God of War, etc.

#42 1 year ago

How has this not sold? The pin market is pretty strange these days. People trip on themselves for new releases, but a game like this doesn't sell? Weird.

Quoted from NC_Pin:

Yea, many collectors are just gravitating to the newer games. When we commissioned this piece’s incredible restoration we thought we would keep it forever (note PavBall’s avatar), but we also have gravitated toward the newer titles as of late.

Quoted from PavBall:

Well, the listing expired today. I did relist it. I’m just not going to do another featured ad for it.

Medusa is sold pending payment. Thank you for the interest and discussion everyone.

$7900 for the nicest example in the world of any game seems like a deal. Glad the sale worked out. Someone got a beauty.
