I am selling a super rare Stern Cheetah pinball machine (only 1223 of these were ever made). Here is everything I know about it:

The cabinet is solid, but it does have some rough spots. The playfield is fairly decent for this title and should touch up well. The back glass is in excellent condition, and the only plastics I see with any real damage are the thin inlane plastics that are chipped off where they meet the flipper bats.

The original MPU was replaced with an Alltec board, the rectifier board is also new, and the machine works 100%. I already did all repairs. All this machine needs is a shop job.

I have also replaced capacitor c26 and did recommended mods on the solenoid driver board. I repinned the necessary MPU female connectors as well.

I will consider cash + trades for other machines. Pinside suggested price was $6,500. Feel free to make an offer.

6 grand for a project???

rare game but this is over priced and he does say OBO. The last one sold had touched and cleared playfield and a bunch of new stuff and worked 100%. I think it sold for $6k. This one appears to have some pretty serious cupped inserts and some other issues. I don't blame him for trying to capitolize on the early stern frenzy but I think he is at least $2000 over priced. There is a guy trying to get $7k for a star gazer on Facebook. I guess we will see how all this plays out.

better trade it back

Worth every cent. Good luck finding any other for sale. How many of the 1100 left...maybe 60% at best.

When a game is rare, you can ask what you want for it. The “market” or “Pinside average” is out the window. I’m not offended by the price at all.

I would love to be able to play this pin so I can review. This game is in the top 100 with 28 reviews since this game has been out since 1980.

What's the story with this title?

Great Game. One of my favorites in my Classic Stern Lineup. Just about any Harry Williams Game plays great. This one is no exception.

agree. Big Game is a masterpiece in my opinion. I have not got to put enough time on Cheetah to say. Big Game and Catacomb (not Harry) are the go to pins in my collection at the moment and I have a Dracula coming Wed.. early Sterns are amazing.

It's worth that price if you have a blue cabinet and Roger Sharpe playing it at Expo 2013.

I sold my Cheetah for $900? I think at York a few years ago. They're not that rare. The night before I left for the show I shattered the backglass yet somehow found 2 the next morning.

I'm thinking about selling my Quicksilver for $10000. Any takers? They only made 1201 of those. Comes with a brand new playfield.

Not trying to start an argument here but Big Game is indeed a (brilliant) Harry Williams design.

Update: I installed an Alltech MPU and game boots up fine and 100% functional. Didn’t have sound, and found out Ribbon cables to sound board needed patched up. Sound now also works 100%, but ribbon cables should be replaced.

Cheetah is a fun game, had one for about ten years, not sure it should carry this price premium but the market speaks for itself. Like many of the games from SEI at the time, it has a unique playfield layout. It has three spinners, yet they are not as satisfying to hit as Star Gazer, Quicksilver, or Big Game, as on Cheetah they are more difficult to square up on. Certainly enjoyed the synchronized drop target shot. Also, I think the top drop target bank is challenging to try and hit straight on. Getting big points is easy as the outer loop shot awards bonus collect. It is a bit of a search to find big points outside of the bonus collect, though. After a time, I played mine enough to know that I didn't mind selling it. If you are looking for a classic Stern wide body, I find Big Game to be much more fun to play and those can be found at a more reasonable price. YMMV.

Interesting that I ended up getting mine for free from someone that didn't want it. Honestly, when I first saw it, I didn't think it looked too appealing. Oranges, greens, yellows just looked out of place. The bg was perfect but the pf was trash. Ended up finding a nice used semi-populated playfield to swap in.

I'd have to say it is a unique layout for sure. Interesting sounds and rules to go with the layout. I do like the center drop target rules as well as the timed 3-bank at the top. The left bonus collect on mine is a b*tch for sure. If you can hit it it's satisfying, but that happens on maybe one in 5 games.

Good luck on your sale! Not a game you see very often.

#29 3 years ago

I have no problem ripping any of the spinners on Cheetah. I'd sell Big Game before Cheetah too. Toughest shot to make is the left bonus collect as stated above.

Yes, that is quite a pickup, a free Cheetah! I am surprised to hear that your bonus shot was so tough to hit. On my Cheetah, it wasn't an easy shot, but with a run at it I could hit it all day long. Game was bone stock with a clearcoated NOS playfield and played fast as lightning, legs all the way up in the back. It was one of the reasons I sold the game. Once I rolled it over 10 million, I figured it was time to let it go.

This game might win the "weirdest boobs on a backglass" award IMO

#32 3 years ago

I sold mine for $3300 or so a few months ago. I listed it here for a bit and no one bought it at $3500 so it sold on FB. Just FYI on pricing.
