Quoted from metallik:

Yeah, Gene knew people could swap the armor no problem but you can't change the playfield insert. That is the mark of the gold models.

That’s a neat fact. Preventing Promiums way back before Stern!

Quoted from gdonovan:

Oh I'm sure someone owns the license, Williams looked into producing them at one time and even made a prototype.

Planetary does, Rick bought everything from Gene (or his estate)

But you have to consider the reality, like Kingpin, the significant challenges to remake this using Williams parts and cutting out all the proprietary Capcom stuff isn’t easy!

Quoted from TigerLaw:

Planetary cannot license BBB (as it was) for manufacture. Some things are not transferable in a bankruptcy...some IP transfers get clawed back…there were some legal considerations in Gene doing what he did as well but it was a different era.

Quoted from Mr68:

From 4 years ago.

Tiger, could you explain further please. First I've heard of that. Thanks

Quoted from TigerLaw:

Perhaps he felt he could acquire all of the necessary rights...or perhaps he had a modified version of some kind in mind.

As of this year, when I was emailing Rick, while not directly asserting that they could make BBB, it was still implied that it is a consideration. It was stated that PPS owns EVERYTHING Capcom left over from IPB.

Quoted from flynnibus:

Not if they sold the IP too… which afaik they did.
WMS did not - they sold their inventory and granted people licenses to the WMS properties.

As far as several of us are aware, and I’m pretty sure Gene also stated this: Capcom sold the IP. It was worthless to them. They had 4 machines and 18 months of existence. They were not Williams with the entire history of pinball in their back-catalogues. When Capcom went bust they were driving around a truckload of parts begging people to buy it all and make it go away.

The only licensing needed from Capcom is literally their naming rights. Capcom is a goldmine, you get everything scot-free! Only trouble is that no parts exists and the molds are all destroyed. You get to start from zero material again.

Quoted from Daditude:

I'm just curious, but since the consensus seems to be that 40k is too high, since it does state "obo,"...what amount is NOT too high??

Mods please change this thread to “Capcom IP discussion” and delete all this “for sale” nonsense derailing our debate!
