I love this game. Not enough to ever spend more than 3k on a decent one, though. Yeesh. Market be stupid right now. If getting out is the goal, now's a great time to do it!

Quoted from Blackbeard:Honestly, it's because you likely won't find one for that. And if you do, 100 other guys are lined up to steal it at that price.
Oh, I know my price is not going to land me a Bad Cats...but that's also been true for like 7 years now. It's unfortunate, because I have fond memories of playing one as a kid, I've played one since and still like it, and it's very much a game I would do a restoration on. But they're like GD hens' teeth.
I just can't believe it's gotten SO ridiculous that beaters are 4k. I told my wife when CPR announced they were doing playfields we would never be able to afford one now......looks like I was right.
Quoted from Blackbeard:Agreed. But that’s the market.
I think the pin is actually pretty boring.
You're not wrong. It's very simple. It makes Junkyard look look like Lord of the Rings in comparison.
Quoted from ManyQuarters:Quoted from Blackbeard in Bad Cats forum 15 days ago:
"Guys, I'm half tempted to list my restored bad cats. Looking for thoughts on pricing as i've been outta the hobby for a few months.."
My response in Bad Cats forum 15 days ago:
"Blackbeard, that's a tough one and you always have to factor in condition and rarity but the way pin asking prices have moved lately makes for a rising price target for any pin. Last year's prices (or even six months ago prices) are not this year's prices.
I see a lot of low to medium rated EM's in 6 or 7 condition priced for nearly $US2,000 and the highly rated rare ones pricing for double that or more in my local. SS's are about that or more and NIB prices are going off the charts. It just seems the middle era alphas and DMD's are seeing a less volatile price surge. Their time will come. The shine just seems to be elsewhere right now. JMHO
As far as Bad Cats go here are my thoughts:
- My refurbished to CQ status BC was ordered two years ago for the equivalent of just over $US6,000. I felt that was a lot at the time but NIB's were nudging up to $US10,000 here so I reasoned I was getting a good deal.
- Well two years later I'm a happy camper with that purchase as it's basically a NIB (or better) HUO and easily half the cost of any NIB.
- Now I see the prices from the same refurbisher (Absolute Pinball ) and you are looking at around $US8,000 for the same or even lower rated game.
- It depends on the buyer though. Bad Cats is a masterpiece of art from Python and many people love cats. Yes, it may not be the most highly rated game playwise but look at all the mediocre stuff pumped up on the market that has a lot less going for it.
Bottom line, in today's market, I'll guess $US5,000 to $7,000 for a restored Bad Cats depending on condition. Go for $6,000+"
BTW...Me and Bad Cat Elmer are both real happy 'bout 'our' Bad Cats! [quoted image]
Man, you spent all that money...
And then put it by a window?
Quoted from radial_head:The corners seem to already be lifting and I see no reason you wouldn't color match your base coat before you threw on the decals.
Honest question... WTF does the color of paint UNDER an opaque decal have to do anything unless you're talking exclusively about corners that might end up exposed or something? I've never had the room to do cabinet restorations, so I'm honestly ignorant in this regard.
