For sale: Original Very Nice Attack From Mars - Chicago area

Added: June 3rd, 2018 Re-listed: 2 times Ended: September 13th, 2018
Condition: HUO - Undocumented (Home Used Only)

Item description

I have an extremely nice Attack From Mars available I am looking to sell or possibly trade.

Mods include the following:
Restoration from Treasure Cove (About 5 years ago)
Full Cointaker LEDS
Clearcoated Playfield
Backglass LEDS
Color DMD
Bill Ung kit
shaker motor

Since owning the game I have not really put a ton of games. The game count on the DMD shows a little over 1,000 total plays. I bought this from a local pinsider who had bought the game from Treasure Cove after the restoration.

If your looking for a great example of an original Attack From Mars, then you found it. Prefer to work out something locally but not opposed to shipping if it is setup by the buyer.

Really nice original AFM, left flipper needs adjustment!

Good point. Adjusting it now!

Love seeing org.

#6 11 months ago

Responded to the few trade offers. Game is still available.

#7 11 months ago

Is it a reproduction playfield, or was the original playfield reworked? I too like to see these non-remake machines out there that have been restored. They do play differently!

I hate to be the Debbie Downer but I call them like I see them and this is no different.

there are folks that refute the remakes saying they are garbage and originals will always be better. This add disputes that in the clearest way....... Rewind just two years ago and this game is gone at 3k+ in value.

This reminds me of the current restored Monster Bashes that are smoking nice but still advertised at 9.9 and not moving. The obvious problem is the remake is right around the corner and listed at probably 8.5 k for the LE. I would be extremely skeptical of originals at this point. All of you elitests that need the original.... They don't get nicer than this....Why haven't you grabbed this yet?....... Exactly

The remakes have pulled the “rareness” value bump out of the equation, for sure. But I don’t think this is an “original vs. remake” decision for buyers, as much as it is an “AFM for $7000 vs. brand new Stern Premium for around $7000” decision buyers are having to make.

If a guy was in the market for a $7000 pin, there are soooo many other brand new games out there to choose from. AFM is a great game, but is limited in coding compared to these new games. Toss in video displays and the amazing graphics starting to develop, and a $7000ish Iron Maiden Prem or add a little more for a DialedIn is where the pinball dollar starts competing.

Think you are both right here and this has created the perfect storm for value crash of original AFM. I'm about to start a very high end restore on an AFM and already know it will be the biggest pissing away of money, to date, in my current pinball journey. And, trust me, that is saying something!

When people restore games it all goes wrong when they decide to bling out. If you just restored it and didn't waste money on powdercoating, chroming, toppers etc... the loss wouldn't be so bad or you would at least break even.

Exactly!! The recent market adds for the $6500 World Cup soccer and $5500 T2 come to mind.

Yeah, but what's the fun in that? How about plating all the assembly parts below the playfield? Is that a good investment?

The real value is in the Williams games that won't be remade because they were not real popular. NGG is a great example. Not many made (I believe around 2700) and is really a lot of fun to play. $4,000 or so buys a extremely nice example. There are some Stern games that are actually quite fun like Monopoly. $3-4k buys pristine machines. This is what I really look to buy in the future. This $8-$10k new LE/CE stuff coming out isn't interesting me anymore.

Games like CC and BBB will be remade just because production was low. I don't like either game at any price and even if they were $8k new I wouldn't buy them.

I do have an AFMrLE and at $7500 it is an ok machine to have, but as was posted here there are a lot of games coming out that are better.

With all this said, this one is a darn nice example of an original and if you collect originals it certainly makes sense. I just bought a Pinball Pimp TZ restoration as I don't think it will be remade since 11,000 originals were produced. At $7800 I am at the top of what I want invested in one, but I would rather have $7800 in a perfect one that $6k in one that is ratty. Same goes for the one the OP is selling. Ratty AFMs still bring $5.5k+. Pay another grand or so and get a good one!
