Game - for sale

For sale (or Trade): Attack from Mars

Added: 2018-06-04 22:00:00 UTC • Re-listed: 2 times (October 8th, 2018) • Ended: October 13th, 2018
Condition: Used - shows wear but 100% working and clean

Price

$ 5,850 (Firm)

Price is firm

I am looking to sell (Cash on pickup only. Not looking to ship at this point in time) or trade plus cash my way preferably for a Black Hole or Viking. I would also possibly consider a Walking Dead or TNA. Any trade options would have to be in very nice condition.

Some of the changes I have made to the game since I have owned it include….
Complete LED conversion
Added Pinblades - https://www.pingraffix.com/product-page/bally-attack-from-mars-custom-pinblades
New Rottendog board (see pics)
Added Anti-Glare on the DMD - https://www.cometpinball.com/DMD-GLARE-ELIMINATOR-p/dmdglare.htm

Issues / Thoughts
- Cabinet Fade (see pics) - I don’t know for sure but from what I understand this is pretty typical of these machines
- there is wear around the scoop (see pics). Looks like whomever had it before my buddy put the Cliffy on after the wear occurred
- a tiny bit of wear around some of the inserts, nothing too noticeable. see the pics for reference

Overall, I think it’s a pretty nice example of an original AFM.

No credit dots, plays great.

Any questions or if you need more pics, let me know.

Thanks for looking.

Looks like a nice AFM with some tasteful mods, upgrades, and LEDs at a fair price. Wish I had more room...GLWTS!

Thanks. No interest at all so far, so I may end up just taking it down and keeping it. Unfortunately I am more of a casual hobbyist and don't have enough knowledge as to what is holding this particular machine back from being priced "fairly" on the current market. I thought I would have been ok at this price point but I guess not. Maybe just bad timing?

That is a fair price for what looks like a machine in good condition. I think you are right bad timing - wait for after the holiday weekend. You are fighting the remake but you are priced accordingly, West Coast prices are so much higher than East Coast everything seems cheap to me.

Just for comparison there is another AFM with a Color dmd that is listed at $5400 that is in nicer shape than yours. I really think because of the remakes out now that this game has lost its high priced steam and prices are slowly coming back down to earth.

Yea, the remakes are really taking it's toll on these games. Before the remakes this would have been snatched up in less then a minute. Still a great game at a great price however I think people who really wanted an AFM just decided to get a remake. Plus with all the new titles coming out some people are holding onto their money to see whats next. Might just need a little more patience to wait for the right buyer.

The job is a major pain and takes a ton of time and effort BUT if you take the time to redecal the cabinet (art costs less than $300) you will have no problem selling that machine for 6700+\- the cabinet fade is a price killer

Thanks for the feedback guys, it does help add perspective. I'll have some decisions to make I guess. I can honestly say I wouldn't be totally heart broken if it doesn't sell. I have limited space (room for 3) and have taken an interest lately in the early solid state games, but "having" to hold on to an AFM isn't such a terrible thing. I really do enjoy the game a lot. I was just looking for a change up.

I was also trying to avoid investing more money into it, just to sell it. Especially if the return ended up not justifying the adds. In my space, the AFM sits between two machines, so I barely notice the side art. But I get it. The market dictates the price and there are factors out there on this one. It's why I don't play the stock market any more - I somehow tend to buy high and sell low. The good news here is that at least my investment retains a level of personal value.

At one point I was actually considering a Spiderman and/or an AC/DC. As mentioned, my more recent attention has turned to the older machines and I have only been looking for a Black Hole or Viking. I can't say it's highly likely I'll bite, but if you send me some pics/details and what you would want out of it in a trade deal, I am always willing to consider things.

Absolutely. I tried to pick up one in worse shape for over a grand more and lost out, before the remake. I went and got an RFM instead.

No offence to the OP, and I would consider your game if I didn't need a new furnace/AC this month, but the remake influence on original MB prices is what I'm waiting for. Hopefully the effect is similar.

Otherwise, good luck with sale, like I mentioned before, I would have made an offer if not for the timing.

$5900 is too much for an AFM in this condition these days. Sorry, but remakes and new Stern pros have crushed the value on these. Older restored AFMs have sold in the mid-6’s recently. Add another $1500 for playfield and decals to this price, plus the time involved to restore it, it’s just not worth what this is listed for. You’d probably have a quick sale +/- $4500. This would be a good candidate to be put out on route and let it earn enough to pay for a full resto to bring it back to life in full glory down the road.

Thanks for the feedback guys. As I said, I understand completely the market is what it is on this right now. I am not that worried. If it sells, great. If not, WORST case scenario here is that I am stuck with a pretty fun game. I was just looking to sell because I have room available for 3 machines and some serious pinball ADD.

That said, I have recently had a chance to get some time on a Walking Dead machine would also consider that in a trade as well now. Not sure that changes things that drastically but figured it was worth adding in case anyone out there looking to move TWD is interested in an AFM.

Yeah, at that price one could spend 500 more for a brand new one. These just don make sense at the prices they used to be any more.
