Game - for sale

For sale: Addams Family Gold (Special Collectors Edition), T

Added: 2020-04-25 03:42:58 UTC • Ended: June 3rd, 2020
Condition: Fully shopped/refurbished

Price

$ 11,500

I'm listing this with 95% certainty that I'm ready to let it go, as a lot has gone into this game and it has been special to me for some time. It is probably one of the nicest Addams Families out there. This is Addams Family Gold #981. It was produced on the last day they ran the Gold in 1994. It was an American distributed model that was bought by an operator new and then has been in my home collection for 6 years.

It has had less than 600 plays since I have owned it. When I got it in 2014, the following was done:

- New Plasma Dot Matrix Display installed
- Power Driver Board gone through completely
- Tore down fully to the bare playfield and shopped and LEDed
- New gold pop caps
- New gold bookcase
- Legs, bolts, lockdown, shooter, wireforms and side rails plated by Mike Chestnut (right before he passed)
- New White rubbers and star posts installed
- Cliffys installed
- New clear ramp installed
- New Thing Hand
- New up kicker assembly in the back that kicks out from Thing.
- All flippers rebuilt
- NOS translite installed to replace one with minor imperfection
- Scoop light mods added for the scoop (red) and swamp (green)
- New topper case and blue topper lighting added
- Purple super bands on all 4 flippers

Since then, the following things have been done and mods added:

- Various decals throughout including backboard decal
- Gold Balls added
- New Rottendog MPU added
- Fester mod added
- Knight mod added
- Train mod added
- Bear mod added
- Target decals added
- 3 magnet fuses added

The playfield is perfect, pretty much a 10/10. There are no broken plastics. All boards are clean, it plays 100%. Unfortunately, I do not have the original certificate. However, the plate is there and serials match. The side rails I did not put on from Mike as the originals were not bad and I was worried about damaging the cab, but I do have them and they will go with the game.

The cabinet is solid and overall nice, not perfect, but very nice. The worst part of the cabinet in my opinion is the coin door is a little scuffed, but I have an NOS Williams coin door I'll let go with it. I have a couple other TAF mods that will go with it too (phone, limo, etc.). There is one plastic that has a very minor abrasion on it, a new piece of that plastic is in the coin box. Gold manuals will be included.

Let me know if you have any questions or want more detailed photos of anything, I know it is a large investment. For any very serious collectors, Chris Hutchins is about 45 minutes from me. I'm always happy to drop a game at his place if he agrees to take it on for you. Hard to let this one go, but want to free up some funds, have some other things I’d like to buy, and it is time for someone else to enjoy it.

Looks great, how about some pictures with lights off.

Sure thing, I can grab some more tomorrow

Quoted from turbo20lbs:

Agreed, need more dark ass pics for this 12k TAF with shooter lane wear.

It has been played in the past 26 years. I will make that caveat. But, wouldn’t call this bad shooter lane wear. You sit there and wank it looking at the wood in the shooter lane generally?

I’ll get more pics up momentarily.

#8 4 years ago

Sorry if I’m rash above, but whining about shooter lanes is a pet peeve of mine, especially when they’re not worn out. If you don’t have anything nice to say about the game, just move on. This is why I rarely get on Pinside much anymore, but it is still the largest audience to sell a machine.

Quoted from jake35:

Appears to be a nice machine. Shame the certificate is gone. They definitely built the playfields better on the gold editions, the mansion area held up 100x better on them. Shooter lane doesn't look that bad to me, nothing a little novus and a piece of mylar couldn't solve and protect.

Yea, I wish I had the certificate for sure. I could maybe reach back out to the op. He said he had it somewhere but I didn’t want to hassle him about it. If it is important enough to a buyer, I’ll see what I can do.

There’s a marked difference in these playfields for sure from 92 to 94, I’m guessing a different manufacturer between the two, as you very rarely see the mansion wear and magnet burn on these like the originals. The colors I think are a little more vibrant as well, especially in the middle.

Thanks for your comments on the shooter lane. I just woke up and saw the above and shooter lane comments are a pet peeve of mine so got too flustered. I care about playfields and everything else but I’ve never seen the shooter lane argument. Just seems petty if you plan to play the game. It happens, it’s pinball, and agree, my personal opinion is this one is very minimal. If it bothered anyone, could easily be buffed or lightly sanded out. It’s not a hull or heavy wear by any stretch.

Quoted from Darkwing:

Don’t sell it man! I know I would miss it if it left my house

I’ve thought long and hard, I might regret it for sure. I want a new cinema camera rig though bad and can’t justify not shuffling money around from one of my many other hobbies haha

Quoted from athens95:

While we are talking pieces of paper that add no value to a pinball, for example this one adds no value, IMO[quoted image]

Agreed personally. To each their own, I think the plaque is the more important of those two pieces for sure.

Speaking of, I have the certificate for a lord of the rings le that came with a load of parts I got. Can’t remember the number, would have to check, and happy to give the cert to whoever has the game if we could sync up.

#42 3 years ago

Throwing it out there, but I would be open to certain trades plus cash. Prefer just a straight sale, but if someone had a Champion Pub, TSPP, Pinball Magic, maybe Diner plus cash, I'd consider it strongly.

Quoted from EricHadley:

Do I see a rotten dog CPU board?

It is a rottendog CPU. If it matters enough to a new owner, I have an NOS WPC board clean that I could swap it out with.

#48 3 years ago
Quoted from snaroff:

Since the game only had 600 plays when you took delivery, why would you install a Rottendog CPU? I've never been impressed with their quality...the B/W CPU boards have always been rock solid for me over the years. What happened to the original board?

The original board I got when I got the game was decently corroded, all down in the resistor/capacitor banks under the chips. It would have been a load of work to fix properly. When I received and was going through, I band aid fixed it (neutralized, removed the logic chips needed etc but didn’t properly do it) and the board lasted about 4 years. It started finally acting up and I replaced with the rottendog.

I work on games for a living. The original board to do right was worth more than the $150 for a replacement. That’s why I went that route in the end but delayed the inevitable.

I don’t mind WPC logic replacements from Rottendog. I’ve used to no issue many times. I’m much less impressed with their driver boards, I always repair originals of those. Their combo boards (system 11s) I’ve had some issues with in the past too but their latest 9/11 rev has been acceptable the few times I’ve used.

That all being said, since this is a high dollar game, I can put an original clean WPC89 CPU in for the Rottendog if it is important to whomever purchases.

Quoted from The_Director:

Sorry, that is maybe worded wrong. It has had roughly 600 plays since I acquired and went through it. So, about 100 plays a year since I’ve owned and it’s massive tear down to the bare Playfield shop/go through.

That was meant to be an edit, not a reply to myself too. The joys of typing on a phone Haha

Quoted from turbo2nr:

Asking too much obviously.

This is pending actually, and has a dibs list 5 people long if the first buyer passes.

#57 3 years ago
Quoted from chad:

Not officially sold yet is why. Once the game leaves close it out.

Yep, Chad is spot on, buyer has contacted Bob Cunningham. Bob is down with some trailer issues but should be back up in a week and a half or so and I didn't want to get full payment on a game this expensive until closer to pickup. So, once the game is paid for and left the building, ad will go down.
