I am unsure where this information comes from, or if it's just assumed. First things first, You DO NOT have to cut the cabinet it is absolutely not a requirement and will not effect performance if you do not. (Yes this was tested). Just like you do not "cut the cabinet" when you upgrade Williams games from 6 1/2" to 8", it's not necessary.
Secondly, if someone chooses to do so, they would be cutting the cabinet to match the original release. Personal preference.
