FS: 1969 Williams Set Up, works! 1-player AAB, 225 made!

Added: 2017-08-03 18:47:33 UTC • Ended: September 4th, 2017
Condition: Functional - needs minor work

Price

$ 225

Here is a 1969 Williams Set Up. Only 225 produced! It's a 1 player EM add-a-ball game. Has a bell and one chime.

Mostly working project. The game starts, plays the correct number of balls, and ends as expected. The red up-post between the flippers overheated and warped, so is no longer quite flush with the playfield ($2 part from PBResource). The coil was burnt, and has been replaced. Left flipper bushing was cracked, and has been replaced. New rubbers and #47 bulbs have been added.

A copy of the manual and schematics are included.

The reds are flaking badly on the backglass, but the rest is ok. Some fade.

The skier advancement lamps in the backglass don't always light--it may be flaky lamp sockets or some switch adjustments--I wasn't able to make it that far.

The lamps for the "7" target aren't lighting, but they did light up once or twice. Possibly flaky lamp sockets or a switch adjustment.

Other than that, everything else appears to be in working order.

Average playfield. Some wear, plus some moderate planking on the upper playfield area. Needs some cleaning. All the plastics, targets, and posts are intact.

It has a later era lockbar and later era shooter assembly. The lockbar latches, but takes some fiddling, since it isn't quite the correct fit for the lockbar receiver.

The cabinet was completely repainted and covers the original artwork, but the paint comes off easily if you pick at it a little bit (which doesn't seem to harm the original paint underneath.

Has legs and all the leg and backbox bolts. Has the rear cover panel for backbox.

The coin door wiring is hacked for free play. The wiring for the slingshots was replaced for some reason, but they appear to operate as expected.

A standard power switch has been added to the right front corner of the cabinet, and the kick panel switch has been jumpered.

That's about all the major stuff I noticed.

Interesting as this is the 2 flipper version. Set-Up had a 4 flipper and 2 flipper version. Not sure which is more fun. Seems like I read that it can be a little too easy so the 2 flipper may be more challenging.

#3 6 years ago

Interesting, I didn't even notice that. I can see on the bottom of the playfield that flipper mechs were never present, so it certainly looks like a factory variation to me.

#4 6 years ago

Yes, I had one too last year. At first I thought it was some weird hack but after looking it up on IPDB saw that they left the factory that way. Definitely looks like an easy $150 worth of fun it.

#5 6 years ago

According to soon-to-be published IPDB details, there were only 225 of these games produced.

#6 6 years ago

Ok, all the major game features are now in working order, and this game will be set up for free play.

#7 6 years ago

This has been running fine on free play all day so far.

#8 6 years ago

I'm surprised I didn't get any nibbles at the show for this rare game at an attractive price. It's actually a fairly challenging game too.

#9 6 years ago

I helped ForceFlow get this game running. Once we figured out the mechanical issues, it played quite nicely. The advancement of the skiers in the back box will not be a big deal-- we just didn't have time given the constraints in getting it ready for the show. It likely just needs a good cleaning of the stepper that controls it.

Biggest issue is the repaint of the cabinet-- it's UG-LEE! But, in the areas where there he repaint has peeled off, the original paint looks pretty good.

I would grab it for myself, but I'm just flat-out out of space. It's a fantastic deal on a working, very rare pin.

As indicated, was interested but unable to attend.

I'm a little surprised nobody has scooped this up yet. What are you waiting for?

#15 6 years ago

Bump for a cool game. It was fun to play it at the Satatoga show.

Firt classic I've seen with pop up posts in the outlanes (I think Stern Rolling Stones had it) I'd pick it up if I had more room.

#16 6 years ago

It has a couple of interesting features. I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but after you hit targets 1-6, a stand-up target for #7 pops up out of the playfield, which you then knock down--almost like a drop target.

#17 6 years ago

For the era, it has a pretty decent rule set and a couple of really unique playfield features. As I said before, I'd grab it for myself if I had the room. It's was a steal even at the original asking price.

#19 6 years ago

Huh. I'm surprised. A rare working game in decent shape that needs some cleaning and minor work for a bargain price. I didn't think this would last a day. Is everyone asleep at the wheel?

#21 6 years ago

Other side of New York i'd probably have to make the drive

cant beat a cheap pin

#22 6 years ago

If I hadn't had the replay version not that long ago I'd likely be all over this

#23 6 years ago

I've gotten about a dozen PMs and emails about this, but so far, nobody has committed to stop by for a look yet.

I'm free tonight (Friday) and pretty much all day Saturday, so if you're eyeing it, snag it before someone else does!

#25 6 years ago

I did a little work on removing the paint. All it took was a little soaking in goo gone and it started peeling off. What didn't peel off came off with a little rubbing.

Looks much better in the original paint scheme.

#27 6 years ago

That's coming along nicely! The blue certainly attracted attention, but really wasn't it's color

#28 6 years ago

Very Tempting ...

#29 6 years ago

Some more progress today. It went a bit slower today, but I think that might have something to do with it being a cooler day. I made much more progress on a warmer day after the cabinet had been baking outside for a little while.

Also, dropped the price another $25.

#31 6 years ago

Since a few folks have asked, no I won't hold it for x number of weeks. If you want it, come and get it.

Sold pending pickup.

Thank goodness! I was getting worried that I was going to cave in and buy it.
