Number 372 landed. Man, DeadFlip holly shit if you keep making them like this I am going broke. The first dead post save I uncontrollably blurted out F Yeah! To me, no debate which is better. Played both.
1 game review, Shaker is awesome, Overloard magnet is cool, upper playfield is awesome, looped it 3-4 times. In certain modes the expression lights look like decibel meters. Crap guess I need to go back to work. Some eye candy.

I like that front entryway!

If you’re at all interested, I used to have leg sliders like that until I found these fit almost perfectly.

I've seen very few people comment on the expression lights... everyone just talking about whether they like upper playfields or not.

LE owners, what do you guys think?? Pretty well coded? good effects? Try to offer unbiased (non-purchase self-validating) view but also make me feel good about my 2nd run premium. Thanks!

I think they're fantastic, and based on Rush, I think they'll get cooler as time goes on

Why thank you. They build them nice out here in Tejas. My sliders have been beat to hell as they are a good 10 years old and the MVS cab did a
number on them. I hade some smaller ones once upon a time and the covers for tile. Might be time for an upgrade. I like the form factor. Good call.

Quoted from PinMonk:

It's a pretty durable vinyl sticker, so you can pull with quite a bit of force and it won't tear. But freeze spray will help the adhesive give up the ghost if it won't do it without help.

It’s not the same material as in previous games. Seems thicker. I’ve pulled the others off easily.

All unboxed and seems to be playing perfectly. So fast and smooth. If anyone is worried about the upper playfield slowing things down, don’t. If you don’t flip it goes through there plenty fast.

Yeah, definitely get replacement fans. Stern Spike 2s are akin to living beside the airport, if you don't.

The sound of the fans never bothered me. You don't hear them when you are playing the game.

Folks sorry I didn't reply to any comments from my last post - just been busy - and in my spare time trying to enjoy the new pin as much as possible - and it's easy to do as this thing is faaantastic!

Outside of playing I found a little time to tinker w/ sound again and this is a nice jump over my last post where I started to fiddle, again this is ON AN LE.

After reading all of the awesome links to threads provided re sound I have decided to keep w/ 8ohms in the backbox and simply tune to my ear / space, would love a pinwoofer system or such but it was a stretch to get the game.

Running volume into high 20's as max needed for our space I've now fallen into these settings and do think (YMMV) the speakers aren't that bad at all once massaged w/ the following....

She’s arrived and dialed in. 4/21/23 build date for this Premium. One quick adjustment out of the box with auto-plunge mech getting hung up. Tightened down screw and fixed it (included a pic). .93 code. Put 3 quick games on it. Buttery smooth is such an overused pinball term but damn this thing shoots like a dream. Yes, this thing plays super fast. Love the upper playfield. Have yet to experience the dead post. Can’t wait to log some hours on it. Cheers to you Jack Danger. You nailed this. To everyone waiting on your games, hope they arrive very soon. Y’all are gonna love it!

[quoted image]

I just unboxed my Premium and I had the same problem. Even with left flipper held up it bounced into the bottom of it. I had to bend the metal apron out a little bit so the ball didn’t catch too much of the post. Now it is perfect to right flipper. Only bend it out (toward playfield) a tiny amount and then test. See image.

Jack Danger also stated that you can loosen two nuts on the apron, push it up a bit and retighten.

Both approaches achieve the same concept of making the ball hit a bit less of the post.

I have not had one fail since the adjustment unless it was my error of not getting the flipper up soon enough.

Indeed. I can hear it across the house.

Quoted from HB_GAMER:

Hea guys. Do these games run hot. There is a cooling fan that seems to run off and on. My first spike 2.

It doesn't run "hot" per se, just that the fan turns on at full speed when the internal temperature of the power supply hits 122F and stays on at full speed until the temperature drops back down to 104F when it shuts off. And that power supply fan is the cheapest, crappiest, loudest fan possible. Meanwell (or Stern, I don't know if it was done to scrape a few cents off the price) recently changed from the crappy, loud NMB fans to even crappier, louder PowerNex fans.

That's what you're hearing. I change them on every pin I bring in, even though I usually only have them for a few weeks to a few months each. I just can't take the noise.

Here's some reading on the subject, if you are so inclined...

Here's my original DIY thread that eventually turned into the quiet fan kits I sell when people just wanted a plug and play solution rather than a parts hunt:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/replacing-stern-spike-noisy-ps-fans

And here's a post I made documenting the change to the crappier PowerNex fans:

I was never a huge Godzilla fan, and I had the Pro and the Prem at different times, wasn't missing them when they left. Really enjoyed Foo Pro and looking forward to Foo LE on its way. So, *for me* I'd rather play Foo, although I must note that at this point it's nowhere near as deep as Godzilla.

#1783 12 months ago
Quoted from Sorokyl:

expression lights… LE owners, what do you guys think?

My first pin with them. I do like them especially when you select a city, they are color coded and provide depth of view when I have a chance to look. It seems that during one of the songs they were like a dB meter like you would see pumping up the crown at a ball game. I will get more time on it but I like what I see so far. I am sure they will go from good to great. One effect I think is astonishing is when you start a Overloard multiball, there is a white lite that casts a circle on the playfield like a alien tractor beam which is cool as shit. Another thing no one is talking about is the Overloard figure. He seems to be multiple pieces and is incredibly animated during play. It is not a single sculpted piece of plastic that just sits there. On monkey wrench multiball I swore he moved his arms. This team is special.

I think its a better game than Godzilla was a month after release. Godzilla has much more depth and polish now and I hope the same happens for Foo as it goes beyond 1.0 code.

#1786 12 months ago

Picked up my premium today and so far very impressed with it and glad I held on to my spot instead of switching to a pro.

A couple of small observations, it appears Stern made some changes to their legs. The holes for the bolts are now more tapered outwards. I compared all of my other recent games and this is the only one that has legs like this. I hope this is a design change and not a random situation as I like how the nylon leg protectors lay flatter and don't bend when compressed.

I also noticed that the screws for the name placard are now just black philips head screws, instead of stainless steel torx screws. I prefer the look of the stainless and will buy some to replace.

Lastly, surprised that the cabinet art has some texture to it. For example Dave Grohl's guitar you can feel the strings.

If you don't like the idea of opening the PSU and/or have some extra 60mm/80mm fan, and/or hate spending money and/or have a 3d printer, might want to check this solution:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/replacing-stern-spike-noisy-ps-fans/page/6#post-5049264

The idea is that since the internal fan is triggered by temperature, If you put a 12v fan on the outside of that fan pulling air out(through that stock fan), it will cause that fan to never turn on. Seems hacky but works great. stock fan on my GZ has not come on since i did this many months ago... and since I have a box of random ass computer fans, was free. You can find STL files for 60-40, 80/40 fan adapters , or find adapters to buy all of the internet.

I mean.... at this moment, no. But the code is so early. The shots are absolutely fun as hell. So it all depends on stern. They've got a good base to work with for sure, now what all do they do with it..

I made the plush nylon washers (which are thicker and slightly bigger diameter) so they don't bend into the holes a bit when compressed. I prefer them to the standard washers, but I still offer both. I don't have as many colors in the plush yet, but I started with the most popular ones and will expand them from there. Black is on the way and I'm trying to get true pantone neons for the first time, too (which is tougher than you might imagine).

Here's the Bali Dream, Red Alert, Lemonade, and Tangerine plush washers on a Foo. You can see it extends past the widest part of the bolt head all the way around:

#1792 12 months ago

My thoughts from Day one of LE 372: favorite shot is the Rami, favorite scene with the expression lights is the Overloard ball abduction. The shaker kicks Ars. When you trigger the dead post Dave’s foot lights up thenDistortion Pedal. That is Rock n roll. Also posted earlier in the Owners forum:

Man, oh man. I havent played anything quite like it. I shot the Secret “Overdrive Skill” Shot or Congo shot and it was like 5 mil for a single shot. I tried again later only to fall one lane short and the Overloard taunts with and I’m paraphrasing “you need to be more cleaver than that”. Really? How F’en cool (adult mode off) is that! You are doing a city, then the Overloard, balls all over, you hit one up the right ramp Area 51, so thrilled to get a hit on the top flipper, while caos ensues, just outstanding! The satisfaction of triggering Area 51 mb when the hatch raises and you hit the target just hard enough.
Jack’ oh Jack. Your magic little post. A 10 dollar piece of plastic. I just have to say, in a not weird sort of way, I love you. Back in the caos, a left peer to see amber lit, look right and hit the left flipper and F’en ya! Just F’en amazing. And when you don’t hit it in time the agony of defeat.
And yes, the Expression lighting, is totally worth it. It really is. Adds depth to the game visually. Now I think I will go back and try it in the Dark.

This game and its creators is something truely special.

Interesting about the defender. Wonder if you have the older version. He had to make a modification for foo fighters because of the screw slot and it sitting funny even if you could get it in.

I don't believe PinWoofer provides the acrylic color rings. I do know you can get the color rings from DugFreez at speaker light kits though.
http://www.speakerlightkits.com/5.25-SPIKE-2-Speaker-Surrounds.html
For my FF premium I went with a PinWoofer Super Kit, speaker light kit type 13 with red acrylic rings, and a deluxe sound activated RGB controller. This will be my first time to install both of these products and cannot wait to get this machine decked out. Just gotta play the waiting game now.
