Quoted from matt68061:

Agree with Blizz…. Except those Precision flippers are also pretty damn sexy!
And making adjustments topside is a plus as well.

I'm not sure if my precision flippers/bushings make me any better or more consistent, but they definitely do look better than plastic, and as you noted, making topside adjustments to angles is quite nice. I've upgraded tons of stuff on my Foo Pro, including adding the precisions, but when it comes to my Rush LE, I've done very little to it - replaced rubber with Titan silicone and swapped the flippers for precision halos.

#13952 86 days ago
Quoted from blizz81:

I think the newest games have a different flipper bushing material that take out some of the slop - kind of halfway between existing Stern and the metal precision flippers. Forget if it started with Wick or Jaws.

It started in earnest with Stranger Things rerun at the end of last year, although there were reports that the AIQ run just before also had the glass infused white nylon bushings.

EDIT: Beaten with the STh info.

Completely rebuilt from the ground up overlord for the pro. Inspiration from dpadham450 model. This model has interchangeable hands. Made it work with raidenmods overlord legs and soon the dome. Going to fit with highvoltage DMCS lcd overlord. This has been a fun project. Thinking about listing these Inspired models for sale if there is any interest pm me.

I now have an extra model with legs attached from dpadham450’s design and rapidflippers legs that I printed and colored for sale if anyone who can’t print one of their own wants it pm me. Pictured below last photo.

Can someone explain what the purpose of the ‘Area 51’ insert on the playfield is? It’s at the base of the Area 51 ramp, right next to Dave’s head.

It seems like it is always lit right from the start of the game. Does it ever flash, or change colors, go dark, or something to convey some information?

#13955 85 days ago

If it’s solid it means the next shot will give an Area 51 award (an animation, progress toward multiball, some points, relights the captive ball for UFO Bonus). If it’s blinking, it means multiball is lit (either at the ramp on a pro or upstairs on a premium). If it’s pulsing slowly it means you are currently in Area 51 multiball.

On the premium, you will only see it lit the first time through, as the ramp spots upper playfield shots which progresses you and gets you Area 51 awards.

On the pro, the second time you play Area 51 you’ll see it lit at 0 shots, half way to multiball, and one shot before multiball would light.

Even when you’re not getting the award it’s adding to the ramp count towards the next Area 51 multiball on a pro, it just only gives out the award so often and the light indicates that.

Took a little break from playing Foo to play some of my other games but came back to it the last few days. Honestly it may have overtaken JP as my favorite pin. It just has everything, layout, rules, humor and a proper story that you feel like you’re progressing through.

I love that Toytime was added, it gives me something to work on after Final Battle instead of just going through the cities again and it’s hilarious! I also love Final Battle, it’s a proper battle for a final wizard mode.

Combo system is amazing. Risk reward with the van upgrades is fantastic and not just for those that like to play for score but also for those that play for progression so it’s not completely ignored by either type of player.

The mbs can be played solo either for score or just fun to progress through or used to upgrade the van or brought into a mode, again they have a purpose for each style of player and don’t lock you out of what you want to do.

Some of the ball paths and deflections are just amazing to me still. Inlane targets, overlord captured ball and getting a boom button, all great.

Also helps that I like the music but like IMDN I think the game is on a level that it doesn’t matter. I love that the band allowed them to do things to their music like with bot frenzy and combotron, it adds great moments and humor. Can’t help but pause and dance when I start bot frenzy! Anything that coders put in that actually makes you pause and not double flip even after 1000+ games, you know they’ve done a good job.

Just amazing, makes me smile a lot, love it.

So I installed a shaker into my FF.. Is there very limited shake during game play? I have it set to max but really not all that much going on.

I actually forgot my Foo Fighters had a Shaker motor in it. I never feel it. I was playing Godzilla the other day and the crazy Shaker experience reminded me that I actually have one in Foo fighters. I was worried it was broken so I ran diagnostics on it. No issues. I would definitely love more shaking!

I installed a shaker in my Pro last night and set it to maximum shake which is factory setting and I definitely feel it while playing it. I feel it shake at the end of ball and when the overload captures the ball. I definitely like it and I’m glad I got one. I bought the Pinball Life one and it works great!

Well said. I bought my Foo premium gently used as my second pin after an AIQ (which is bolted to the floor), with the intent for it to be one I would eventually sell and rotate out for another. I’m not sure how I’ll manage to part ways with it at this point…

Anyone know what the foobot part difficulty setting in menu actually changes? Since the parts have a fixed requirement I was curious/confused what it would do

#13965 83 days ago

EASY:
- the left leg can be awarded by completing a van mode, regardless of if it was done on the first try or scored 50 million
- the right arm can be awarded by playing All My Life multiball (instead of Monkey Wrench)

MEDIUM: the default behavior

HARD:
- same rules as medium for acquiring parts
- at end of ball, any part that isn’t upgraded will become uncollected

In essence, set to EASY if you want more Foobot multiball and HARD if you want it to be more of a challenge…

#13966 83 days ago

Are we going to see any new code updates or is 1.02 pretty much final? Foo is my first and only Stern and just wanted to know what to expect going forward.

#13967 82 days ago

Likely only bug fixes going forward.

Quoted from DevilsTuner:

Jack made a voice note on stream a week ago to try to get Christopher Walken's "Ladies and Gentlemen Foo FIGHTERS" SNL intro into the game as an easter egg. That would be hilarious were it to come to pass.

Still waiting for coop mode…. I recall it was mentioned during one of the first streams when the game came out.

#13970 82 days ago

It’s just unlikely. I have been dealing with stern for almost 26 years and unless someone donates personal time like Lyman used to at home it’s just unlikely. It’s prob the most compete software in that time frame as well barring a few other select titles. Been a long long road since the de days into the sega and modern days.

Far cry from ij4 csi 24 transformers era just glad it’s not all on a couple of guys anymore it got stale.

Thanks Ray I couldn’t find documentation on it and I don’t think the instant info reflected the change. Thank you

Is it just me or is there some kind of issue with the way that the Combotron gets set up? I always try to make sure that, by the time I collect the 6 required Combos to start the mode, that the 3 of them that are showing on the little combotron part of the screen are at least partially blue if not purple. Inevitably, even though all 3 of them are showing some colors other than green and have several lines, when the dude starts announcing the 3 "Best of You" combos there is always one that is 50000 or 51000. I thought it was supposed to give you the top 3 out of the 6 you collected? It's almost like it is giving you the most recent ones instead (once I have collected at least 3 quality combos I usually fill up the remainder with bare minimum ones).

#13973 82 days ago

The count up value displayed during combotron intro is what the base value is for the multiball, not the value of your past combos.

This value go up and up based on how good the combo was that it’s counting - the formula for how much a combo contributes is (1,000 x level) for each of the 7 shots. When it’s doing the count up, it sort of spreads out this calculation for more dramatic effect so you might notice the value go up by 7,000 and then only go up by 2,000, this is because you already got the 6,000 from that shot already and the combo animation is visiting that node again so it just adds the difference from when it visited it before.

Anyway, this built up value then gets used in combotron multiball and is multiplied by the level of shot in the multiball, and the starting levels of shots in multiball is the highest level you ever got on that shot in your 3 best combos.

So if you have a top 3 combo with a purple on the center spinner for example, during the multiball the spinner will start at purple level, thus having a nice multiplier on the base value.

Hopefully that made sense…

#13974 82 days ago
Quoted from Theguyoverthere:

I don’t think that quite worked for me….

My takeaway was basically to just play better and Rayday’s magic will pay off.

Hey fellow rock aliens! Just wanted to let any other owners know there’s still some Overdrive Pedals left from this one time run.
If anyone’s interested take a roadtrip over to this thread:

Here's a good one for you guys. As I've mentioned before several times , I have yet to receive my expression lights I ordered day one from "my distributor" that I have used for 10+ years. I saw on Stern website they are now listed as out of stock not coming soon . Which means the run is done . So I start calling and texting distro saying where is my stuff several times over several weeks being patient. Excuse this excuse that , blah blah, blah. I'm like look I'm canceling my order seeing as marcos has them in stock. Magically "She" says oh we just got them in yesterday. I'll ship them this afternoon and text you the tracking # , ok . No text no tracking # . Let a few days pass nothing . Again can I have the tracking # ....sure I'll send it, nothing . Finally I have an attempt for delivery from fed ex with tracking # . Look it up , says shipped from North Freedom , WI. Wisconsin WTF ??? Distro isn't in WI ??? , but King Pin Pinball . Again WTF !!!
It is evidently apparent my distro of 10+ years was blowing smoke up my ass completely lied to me and I'm done with her. Delivery scheduled for today, but wtf !!! Still never received tracking # .

I’ve had mixed feelings about mods like this. But I had to order some other repair parts from Pinball Life, so…

I bought their 5” Kenwood speaker and Speaker Lights kit. I’m pretty impressed with the build quality, fit (molded rings with precise lip to fit the speakers), and completeness of the kit. Quick, easy and factory looking clean install. Hard to decide on which pattern or color… but I guess it’s a minor concern with changing it being so easy. I like the look even with the lights off (grey Kenwoods and white rings) but for now I’m playing with different settings to see if I can settle on one.

I realize there are several light kits with various features and there might be nicer or more feature filled kits. That said, I’m very satisfied with this one and can’t imagine wanting anything more. (Those with expression lights who want their speaker lights to tie in with that, these don’t have that capability). Thank you to those here who recommended this kit and provided information and videos!

This, and other music based machines really benefit from the larger speakers, and speaker lights. Not that expensive of a mod but easily the first any pro or premium should add from my perspective.

Yeah. It really bugged me that with a music themed pin, you couldn’t even see speakers. Just didn’t seem right!

So easy to print the speaker adapter and install new speakers.
Stern speakers are embarressing, spooky does it 100% better.

I also wouldn't pay anyone these rediculous 3d print prices. I think its kind of sad charging something like $35usd plus shipping for some of the easy stuff.
I'll share speaker adapter file.
the overlord adapter (where the ball gets stuck sometimes).
I'm going to sand the shooter lane adapter a bit to clean it up.

But easy stuff.
I'm almost thinking of printing little kits for each machine and selling them.

Yes, I actually finished it today. I exported the final STL, and got a perfect model after version 6 (e.g. lots of refinement). It is as large as can fit in the space with room for the rocket and ball path underneath. It goes perfectly on the existing wire form mount and uses the same hardware. I was just waiting to share it until I was finished painting the final print, which is about 50% finished. Here is the work is progress.

I couldn’t handle those filament lines at all. Use an 8K resin printer man! The attempt is great but get a better machine or at least sand it down. Looks like it was dug up from the side of the grand canyon. Sorry being honest!

Hi Guys,

I bought my FF LE 2nd-hand and it came with the speaker light ring that links in with the expression lighting. Just installing my topper and found that they both use the same power plug on the power distribution board (CN7).

I currently have only the topper plugged in and no speaker lights but really want to get them powered up too. Any suggestions? Any idea who made the speaker light kit?

Thanks for any suggestions.

** Bit more research and looks like I need a 48V splitter and Ninja Camp sells them. All good now.

A resin printer would definitely produce a much smoother print, but I’ve got my trusty Sidewider X2 at this point that I am happy with for most things. At a players distance it will look better, but I agree that that close up layers are a challenge.

Since I've gotten so much interest, I went ahead the posted the STL file to the Printables site. That way I could give credit to the various model creators I remixed to make this. For lighting I plan to use the existing light board, and install gel-insert “windows” that light up the van from the inside.

https://www.printables.com/model/926352-foo-fighters-van-mod-for-stern-pinball-pro-model

This model could also make an amazing topper if scaled up in size. You could really do some cool things with RGB lighting at that scale.
Enjoy!
