Quoted from ChuckRock:

So I've been posting over in the GnR thread but I wanted to get some Foo perspective! I'm ready to buy my first machine and I think I have it narrowed down to one of 3 pins (in no particular order):
1. Foo Fighters premium - I've played the pro a few times and had a pretty good time. I'm a sucker for more toys and upper playfields so I need to get some time with a premium on location.
2. Guns n Roses LE - I've played the SE a few times but the scoop was misaligned and would drain STDM every fricking time so I barely played it and walked away pissed. I would only ever get an LE anyway considering how "cheap" they are right now.
3. Deadpool Premium - I've played it a ton and its probably my favorite machine so its on the list.
I have a pretty sweet rock n roll themed bar with memorabilia from various bands. I have Axl Rose's microphone I caught at a show once so theme-wise it's the perfect fit. I've been trying to play an LE but I don't exactly have free time to run all over and find one to play first. I'm well aware of the polarizing nature of the machine so I know I need to play it and decide for myself. The one LE I did play I played about 15 games and it had the sound turned off if you can believe it so I need to go back with headphones and play it again! I would imagine the sound and music is critical to the whole experience. I'm a fan of both Foos and GnR but definitely a bigger GnR fan but either would work well in my bar. I include Deadpool just because it's in the back of my mind to just get my current favorite. Either way, I need more time with GnR and Foos before making a decision.
Whatever pin I buy, I'd want to keep for a very long time. I'm not interested in flipping anytime soon.
And no, I can't buy 2 machines. And as much as I love Iron Maiden, the rest of my household would never tolerate it.
Just looking to see if y'all had any perspective on the 3 machines?

With a rock themed bar, Deadpool is great but go with your rock theme. I like GNR and it looks really cool, but I think Foo is the better overall player. Even the pro, but if you want the extra toys by all means get the premium.

Anyone have pictures of their Foo with a different color band and not black or glow in the dark neon? I have the neon now but looking to change up the color to something else.

Before I swapped out to precision flippers on my Foo Pro, I had the lightning bolt flipper toppers with yellow bands on the lower flippers and green (not gitd) on the upper. They worked well with complimenting the flipper topper colors.

You can sorta see the yellows in the older pics in my profile gameroom pics.

Quoted from Sorokyl:

For ZY games in particular I like to do clear rings and mini posts rubbers. Post sleeves to match or complement the artwork in a particular area (sometimes different color post sleeves in different areas). flipper bands can be something else entirely. I have GITD on my FF, but I did clear on GZ, TMNT, and Maiden and they all look great. Let's the artwork shine with less risk of clash.

Durability and bounce/play differences aside, I love the look of clear. IMO it’s the best look on any pin and it allows more light around, brightens the pin even more. Just personal preference of course, but I love the look.

I think the timer for your city doesnt pause when you start combotron so it can time out during the combotron intro. My Chicago mode definitely spread while the intro was going and I think the timer carried on too.

Hopefully get a timer pause in a future update.

Foo Fighters has WAY more depth that Deadpool im thinking of trading my deadpool because theres such little code in it but i love the way it shoots;

is combotron the same every time or it does different combos every time on the screen before you begin combotron mutliball?

It's different everytime, it will be whatever your 3 best combos were

Honestly I have had thousands and thousands of plays on Perfect Play and Titan over many years and I can't remember a single one breaking besides a post sleeve. It's interesting to hear everyone's experience on it. If it's insanely high play you do see people use super bands but I don't like the way they play.

Titans all around with low bounce flippers and super band post covers is the way I roll nowadays.

I sold DP for the same reason. Great game for a stretch though. Unbelievable fun out of the gate.

I’ve been busier than I have been in a long time, but have an open evening tonight and can’t wait to get back into Foo. Should feel nice and fresh .

#13361 4 months ago

I always thought there should be a higher bonus for finishing off a mode (in any game) without the help of multi ball. That being said, now with the CT added in the mix, I recently found myself pushing to start it constantly being the shiny new it was. I’m hoping to play tonight and take what the game is giving me. This has always produced the best results as far as my opinion goes. Let everything build naturally then start them when they’re ready.

This is a very subjective question/answer but I will chime in. I own all three games. Foo and Deadpool get a lot more play than GnR. GnR is a work of art, but it can be very clunky and most friends won't play it after one game or two. The main reason I still have the game is because people love to play it one time. Deadpool is fun, very approachable for just about anyone. It shoots insanely well (it's a big reason that it is one of Danger's favorite games) and the code/callouts are just good fun for all IMO. Foo's shots and code are more challenging and the game is getting more polished with every release. So depending on your home bar (are you buying for guests or you), I would lean towards Deadpool or Foo. Probably get more legs out of Foo, you might get bored with Deadpool as a single game in the house.

Best reply. Seconded.

I’ve only played GNR at pinball expo each of the last few years and I’ve watched a few streams. It was a good looking machine. I just kind of can’t get over the JJP, 1000 multiball games. It took like two shots to start like a 9 minute 6 ball multiball. IMO for one machine I’d be a no, but I have limited experience.

I own both DP premium and FF premium. DP is fun, each to understand (hit the scoop, start the battle, shoot the blinking shots). It was my 100% go to in my collection, until FF.

If I only could have one, I’d have FF. Fun shots, great combo of rock + alien ATF type theme. Easy enough rules, callouts that are not quite to deadpool level but pretty good nonetheless, and its a great shooter. Then the final difference would be what you can do to pimp it out. Expression lights, expression speakers, expression back cabinet and under cabinet give it wow factor. I’ve also added Stumblor’s Area 51, raiden’s control center, mezel’s illuminated amp, and a few bots and saucers from swinks. It’s a beautiful machine.

Forgot to add the topper, but I’m skipping it. It’s super cool and super expensive.

As a fellow owner of a rock-themed home bar, I think you can discount Deadpool now. Brilliant pin with some similarities to Foo - but with the latest code, Foo has surpassed it, in my opinion.

As for GnR, well, I have a CE here and I would be hard-pressed to pick between the two. I already love it but I know new code’s on the way and, from the sound of the beta reports, it’s about to reach a whole new level of fun.

Both are epic games - you can’t go wrong on that front - but they are deliciously different from each other!

#13366 4 months ago

I have a few real nice machines.... That I have not turned on since getting my FF premium. It is fast, flowy, and funny too. Very accessable, and press the Start button again. Deadpool is a top 10 in my book too, I love it. You can't go wrong w either. GnR will drive you crazy eventually... Hence the 'value pricing' on used market. Good luck!

Quoted from Silkenone:

I have owned all 3 and based on the current code of each I would pick Foo. Deadpool is super fun, but I think it would get old in a one pin collection and is obviously not rock themed. GNR is beautiful and really is a "concert like experience" to play, but it is a mediocre shooter and the code killed it for me. Since new code is about to be released, I might wait a bit and see how that shakes out since you are a big GNR fan.

#13368 4 months ago

I really appreciate everyone's advice. You're basically confirming my instincts. That as much as I love GnR and I WANT it to be my perfect machine, it just won't be as fun as foo fighters in the end.

And it being a rock n roll bar, I was leaning foo fighters over DP. In any case, I still want to play GnR and Foo Fighters some more.

And considering my lawn mower just broke and that will cost me who knows how much, I will probably take my time. Not like either machine is going anywhere and this will give time for GnR code feedback to trickle in.

Although, as far as the new code goes, it sounds like it's mostly scoring tweaks. Not overhauling the way the game works to mitigate it's "samey" nature.

Side question: Do these music pins ever get additional songs added as part of code updates?

Foo has had multiple songs added over its' updates, with 'Rescued' and 'Nothing at All'. Now it's unlikely more will be added at this point, but in the case of Foo, it did happen!

Late to the party, but as an owner of Foo and GNR, I probably like GNR a little better (given current state.of beta code), but players more novice than I find Foo more accessible/fun to play that GNR. GNR *might* be the better game all told, but Foo is way more flowy and accessible.

Hi all, joining the club with a nearly new Foo premium tomorrow. Pretty excited, this is my second pin after my AIQ. Have played the pro a ton in bars, but only a handful of plays on the premium.

Going back and reading through all the various post in here, but if anyone has any strong mod or protector recommendations, or wants to direct me to an early post on that, would be much obliged. I don’t plan to go crazy with it, just installing a shooter lane protector, external volume control, shaker motor, and maybe considering the price expression lights.l thus far.

You don't need a shooter lane protector. Just turn the trough power down. A bunch of delicate short plunge skill shots here, shooter lane protectors often mess with that.
You don't need any other protectors or "fix" type mods either really. There was a airball plastic that was too thin but only on very early models.

Expression lights are a great upgrade. The only real "mod" i think is worthwhile is Stumblor's area 51. but the money and effort vs impact...definitely not as good as the expression lights.

Yep..if you don't have any I would recommend the side art protectors from pinballlife or somewhere. You scratch up your $100 art blades or mirror blades it sucks. You scratch up your $500 expression light artwork . Oof. The material stern uses is pretty durable. I usually don't bother using my protectors when lifting a PF with stern art blades. But you probably want to remove the playfield completely for this install, and if you only use the protectors for reinstalling the playfield, probably worth the insurance

#13376 4 months ago

Just got my Pro edition this week, and I was wondering if anyone had designed better looking apron cards? The one on the left is so basic/boring and let's not talk about the big "scan your QR code" on the right. I've seen the ones on Ebay. They are okay, but nothing exceptional. I've got some amazing ones for Godzilla on Etsy. Hoping I can find the same for FF! And yes, I could do it on my own, but sadly, I'm not that talented in this department!

I got those to for my AIQ originally and I won’t lift the playfield without them.

Quoted from blizz81:

I embarked on a slow-mo analysis of my auto-launch recently. Worked fine every time in my attempts to hold my phone and drop a ball back down into the lane and/or test the trough eject coil (which seems to fire at max power vs. what you might have trough eject power set at).
Start a game and have it use my lowered trough eject power and it almost immediately went back to mostly not working. So in my case it seems the way it bounces around due to my changed eject power has an impact on it. (It also looks like the right prong of the auto-launcher isn't even contacting the ball at rest so that's where I'm going next, but just wanted to point out how even trying to perform a slow-mo diagnosis can be challenging)

So this is going to sound strange but you can shift the playfield a 1/4 inch to the left when you place it down into place. I have found that that sometimes fixes inconsistent auto and manual plunge. Also checking the spread on the ball launcher.

During a FooFighters seminar at one of the pinball shows, TPF I think, there was a slide in the presentation that outlined the ‘flow’ of the combo shots. By that I mean there was some detailing of which shots are designed to flow and combo with the one before it

It went by pretty quick. Anyone know where I can get a screengrab of it? It might’ve been included in another seminar at other shows…many of the slides were the same.

Just wanted to post my happy new addition! Great seller on pinball revolution. 123pin. The deal was flawless and he was super to deal with. I've only been playing since Dec and I was doing so so. Now that I'm reading the rule set and trying to play it I am worse.
I need to log some games.

My topper seems to stop movement after a game until I power the machine off and start again. Then it works for 1 game again and stops. Lights seem to work fine. Anyone else have this issue?

#13382 4 months ago

I spun through this thread and see different opinions, but can't catch what I am looking for.

I am trying to understand the differences between pro and premium in light of the new code updates? Has this changed people's opinions on whether the extra $ is worth it? Has either version benefited more from the code updates?

I guess I am still trying to decide between the pro and premium given the fairly steep difference in price.

#13383 4 months ago

im thinking about upgrading to the premium from my pro just because of the expression lights.... it would prob cost 3.5k total probably not worth it if im poor but i just love the lights on led zepellin.

also am i missing alot without he upper playfield?

#13384 4 months ago

We just did a Pinball Party podcast on Foo Fighters where we do spend some time talking about the Pro vs. Premium. My take is that the Pro is good but you are missing more than you realize with no upper pf, no expression lights, and no dead post at the least. The upper playfield adds depth to modes and lets you control when you want to start Area 51 multiball.

If you are curious about upgrading to a premium I would recommend it but maybe you can find a HUO Prem for a good price. I have a Premium and debate selling it to get an LE and I am not an LE guy.

#13385 4 months ago

Just another thing with the auto. Normally you need to be dead level front and back for sensitive games to have shots work as intended. If you are, try pressing down a bit on the lock bar on the side you need the ball to move toward. This works real good on any carpeted room.

#13386 4 months ago

This one of mine is on concrete and is pretty freaking level and I think what's the most frustrating is that it works about 15% of the time and works when you first start but it's like something loses power or gets tired or hot or who knows. I can't use it and manual plunge now. Lol

They're not preprogrammed for each song, but Pinstadiums have a sound reactive animated add on option that mount under their original GI/UV strips. UV really makes the Foo art pop, and the animated strips are a fun add on.

I had the Atom Fusion with the separate lights that coordinate with some flashers and added the Lumi-Motion animated strips recently. Expensive, but if you skip the Fusions and just go with the base Atoms + Lumi-Motion and grab a pair of your favorite art blades (I use black mirror), it's about the same as Expression Lights.

I'll have to get a video of the animations and clearer pics of the lights in general, but you can see some of them here:

I highly disagree. My GotG chipped a big piece of clear off, even with the power turned down. And this soft wood starts to show wear around 250 on most newer Sterns. You do you but I, at the least, throw mylar down on newer Sterns.

I've found some on Ebay (if you search Stern Foo Fighters Pinball Custom Apron Instruction). There are a few different variations, but nothing as good as I was looking for. If you have more luck than me with your search, let me know what you find!

I'm not one for protectors or in fact giving any type of a shit about my newer Stern playfields, and even *I* turn down the power on the trough eject. Just doesn't seem like there's any good reason not to.

I dunno about you but where I have them set once I turn the power down, the ball is barely dribbling into the lane.

Of course one thing I did notice when doing coil tests recently is the game does not seem to take the config setting into account on that and fires it full power. And it definitely does not take long for that to cause issues on newer Sterns - if not turned down I've seen chipping on the first day or two of games being at a not-very-popular location here.

Mylar is easy enough to put down (and so is lowering the power).

Is anyone else having issues with the official Topper? The motion in mine just stops at random times and the only way to fix it is to restart the machine, which again ultimately results in the same scenario. I can't correlate it to any specific event. Just seems to randomly stop moving.

check all the connectors Inside The Topper are properly seated/connected.

I recall another pinsider posted their Topper was behaving oddly, they checked and some connectors were loose. I’d start there maybe.
