Beautiful, nostalgic, artistic work. You should be very, VERY proud of it. (Now put a price on it and sell it to all of the pinball nerds that want to buy it.)

Quoted from eyeguypec:Count me in if you decide to sell them!
Man...me too...please...have my TRON LE coming in a couple of weeks...very excited about the add!!!
Quoted from MustangPaul:Well if you guys have got $1200-$1500 he'd probably make ya one. Works of art aint cheap.
Will it be $1400 by Christmas?
Quoted from PinStef:Just made my own 3D printed 1/6th version that I plan to use as part of a marquee on my arcade machine. Came out pretty good. Thanks to the creator of this thread for the inspiration.

Very nice!
Sweet, PinStef. Certainly cheaper than the route I went. Probably better sized, too.
I'm less talented.. but was inspired to get a local neon artist to tackle my game room. I need to consider getting a dimmer retrofitted. Neither she or I thought about that part for such a big indoor sign.
Wow! Where are you guys getting the EL wire for this? Curious how you wire that up so nicely. What are those clips on the standoffs?

I got my el wire at elwirepros.com. 3.2mm for 1/6th scale worked well. Wiring is easy but it takes time. On my version, each letter (backing, standoff and clips) was 3D printed in PLA as one piece. The original 1/3 scale design in this post is using some sort of metal clips (see on the first page). Not sure what they are.
I'm interested to know what the clips on the original are as well. I've wanted to do an EL wire sign for a long time. I went as far as getting some EL wire and having the basic art done, blown up from a picture of a neon sign in a magazine. I always wondered what I could use as stand-offs, and have thought about it on and off but never really came up with anything.

Can you sell me one? I will be in Ottawa end of June for the Canada Day Classic hockey tournament : ) It would look great in my game room.
Quoted from pinball_customs:Stef, what printer did you use?
I have a printrbot metal but i guess there are no particular requirements for the printer besides having at least 6x6" of print area. I printed mine with PLA but you could use ABS or other materials too.

You did a really good job on this and it looks great!
Is that red and orange El wire?

It that red and orange El wire?
Yes, although they ended up looking more yellow and orange when lit

What are the dimensions of your sign? It looks like it would go nicely in my game room.

I didn't really intend to sell them. These are just too labor intensive to put together and would end up selling for too much.
Some of you have shown interest so one idea I have been toying with is perhaps making kits with all the parts such that people could assemble their own. If there is enough interest, that might be worth doing. Only limitation is the speed of my printer. Let me know if you are interested and if there is enough critical mass, i'll consider it.

In a heartbeat! I would be in for a kit for sure.
You could also always sell the plans and the code needed to have the 3d printer run it.
I'd be interested in a kit, but only for the non 3D printed parts as I have my own 3D printer I could use.
Heck, i'd be interested in just purchasing your STL files so I could source everything else myself.

I in the same boat as you are. I have a 3D printer and would like to print it also. Purchasing your STL files would be good.
I went over all the material required and chatted with some suppliers to get a feel for price and volume. This includes the Elwire, inverter, connectors, 3D printing supplies, labor and all the other little things. To make a story short, even bulk buying from China, a kit would still be more expensive than I was hoping for (~200-300$). So, I did the next best thing and posted all this on Thingiverse such that those who want to can build their own.

For those who don't have 3D printers, you can always get it printed at Shapeways or other similar site although that may get expensive. If some people really don't want to build their own, I might consider making a few down the road but it wouldn't be cheap because of the labor involved.
Enjoy!
Note: sorry for hijacking this thread. Bad etiquette on my part...

Thanks so much for sharing the files!
What are the ruff dimensions of the sign?

Its roughly 6x22". I had sized it to fit the marquee of the arcade cabinet I am building. Turns out it fits nicely on top of a pinball too!
