I love it! I had considered using Airplane! as the theme of my homebrew project, but I didn't feel I could do it justice. I'm so glad someone is taking it on. Can't wait to see your plans!
Playfield monitor first test.
Picture = mode, video lit from original monitor lighting.
1 = tower

Second test.
( this has been achieved with a 9 inch LCD screen
and an angle grinder ).

I now have control of the LED backlight of the monitor
and can now use the monitor as a regular pinball insert.

You can have a million callouts with stuff from the movie. Hell almost every line could work. That is a movie you could watch a 100 times and pick up something you missed.
Quoted from Travish:You can have a million callouts with stuff from the movie. Hell almost every line could work.
I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue!
Looking forward to see how this turns out!!!
The part where the lady gets hysterical and everyone lined up to slap her...when Leslie Nelson turns to walk away and then gets one last slap in...that busts me up every time. That would be a great hurry up mode!
Oh stewardess, I speak jive.
Also, one of the ramps needs to look like an inflatable emergency exit slide.

That's exactly what I have planned for the hurry up.
A spinning dolls head above the captive ball
" I can't take it anymore , I've gotta get out of here" There's the court room scene in the sequel which has the same sequence.
START/MODE LITE/ MODE/MODE FAIL
passengers / mode coffee
This is a recording of the main playfield monitor.
NB. There is no switch hit sounds or insert monitors* tm - just the animations...whatever
FYI on your playfield monitor, I believe that the correct term is "cockpit" not "cock pit". Also, more political correct term these days if "flight deck".

where's the fun in that? : D
pinball looks quite interesting, looking forward for more of this

Hmm, have you ever seen a grown man naked? "Cock Pit" makes more sense now that I think about it.
The multiple drop targets in the back should trigger the parking announcements from the airport scenes. "The White zone is for loading and unloading only".
We all love the movie but I don’t think the theme has much to offer a pinball machine besides an endless assault of quotes we all know by heart.

Hey home, I can dig it. Know ain't gonna lay no mo' big rap up on you, man!

I was asking for suggestions...but not doing it at all?
I think I can manage to make this game fun despite the " endless assault of quotes " and uninspired imaginations of critics as I proceed.
Some animations from
Act1 / level 1 / passengers
Big monitor - centre playfield.
Little monitor 1 of 6 insert monitors.
This theme is perfect for a pinball machine. I love it. I have to say this would be a dream theme for me. I think you need more than 4 modes though. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
I am confused about the LCD monitors all over the playfield as inserts. What's your thinking on this design?

Airport
4 modes x 3( Act 1,2,3 )
and then mini wizard.
Then sequel Airport
Then 4 modes x 3 again for the sequel .
Then wizard mode.
The LCD screens will replace inserts on the main shots.
I have lighting control of these six monitors
Off,Backlit ,flashing and ON .
This will enable a shot to be lit with any particular video I choose .
eg SUPER JACKPOT can be fed to all the insert monitors but only LIT on the RAMP.
All will become clear soon.
INSERT MONITORS
This is the insert monitors behaving like
well...inserts and yet not really cause an insert won't show you a score.
And at the end a speed check.

Have the game suddenly go completely dark and then come back on with the scene of the goofy guy pulling the cord out of the outlet and saying "Oops. Sorry."

I was thinking of Johnie pulling the cord for tilt.

I kinda like the idea of it during gameplay because it was right in the middle of them trying to land the plane when he did it. Just like it messed them up for a second, it would mess you up in the game for a second. lol

Yeah cool, I'll have a look and see if I can get it into final mode.Maybe as a missed shot or something.
I've gotta get out of here v1
Shots change the character calming down
the passenger .
Mode lite / mode start/ramp/ loop /ramp / loop / captive ball ( 20sec timer restart per shot ).

No criticism here. I think it's an awesome idea. This movie is a classic for many of us, and no matter how many times I hear or say the lines, I get completely cracked up. Ignore the haters, incorporate as much of the humor from the movie you can, and have fun with it. The reason we all throw out an "endless assault of quotes" is because how great they are, and many of them would be awesome in the game as various events are triggered.

Stay'n Alive spoof is classic!
Have you considered including the sequel? seems like lots of fitting quotes
Also needs an "out of coffee" mode

I am just finishing off the wizard mode right now ( the landing ) and the thought of stopping at this point is....
well... just depressing.
I keep hearing " Luna Shuttle tickets " I will however stop for now to build the game to test the code.
The sequel is just too awesome and imo probably a better movie ,they expanded so many ideas from the
first and its got Captain Kirk in it !
"I got smokin ,non smokin , by the window by the isle "
I picked the wrong day to give up reading homebrew threads!
Somehow you need to work in a choice between chicken or fish...and eventually unlocking lasagna.

The 2 targets in front of the pops and the return lanes are ' meat and fish ' .
These are a toggling shots that advance bonus and lite which playfield X is active .
Depending which is lit they will advance the playfield X when the upper drop targets are completed...so 2 seperate playfield X
advances.
I guess when both are maxed out ( 7x ) I guess it could lite lasagne
