Flying Carpet Knocker (resized).jpg

I have a Flying Carpet machine that doesn’t register credits on the credit wheel. Everything else seems to work fine. When you hit the specials or reach a replay by score it knocks but doesn’t add a credit. To start a game I put a quarter in. It starts a game but doesn’t add the extra game on the credit wheel. I’ve moved up the extra chute pin to no avail. I can also add credits manually by turning the credit 2heel by hand. Once I add the games, the machine will count down the credits correct until I reach zero. I’m not sure what to try to do to fix the problem and don’t want to make it worse by adjusting the wrong thing. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

I don't have a FC schematic, but you're going to want to find the Add Replay unit and check the circuits into it.

Ill look for it and give it a try.

That's odd. The Knocker is fired by a switch on the Replay unit:

If your knocker is firing, that implies that the advance arm on the Replay Unit is working too. Could it be that the Replay Unit and the circuits that drive it are fine, and that there's a mechanical problem that prevents the credit wheel from advancing?

The metal gear on the Replay Unit probably has a couple of pins mounted to it that open and close the limit switches that keep the Replay Unit within a certain range, like 0 to 14 credits or whatever. It could be that one of the pins is tangled up in, or on the wrong side of one of the limit switches. Or, maybe the limit switch isn't opening at the upper limit. So when the Replay Unit Advance coil fires, the advance arm moves (and fires the Knocker) but the limit switches prevent the gear from advancing to the next step.

OK, check this circuit.

I did a little work on Flying Carpet this morning. Couldn't figure out why the replay unit wouldn't add the credit. The plunger would fire when a replay was won and set off the knocker. So I looked at my Drop a Card game to see why it worked and Flying Carpet didn't. On Drop A Card when I manually pushed the replay plunger there was a little lever that when the replay plunger is activated pulls away and returns one cog down and pushes up the replay wheel to add a game. On Flying Carpet that little lever stays away from the cogs on the game wheel so a game isn't added. I wiggled the lever back and forth to see maybe if was just stuck a little, but that didn't help. Maybe it's missing a spring or something.

Pic and vid?

Attached are a couple of pics and a video. It’s hard to tell but I hope you know what we’re looking at. The little piece that moves the credit wheel is under the piece that moves.

Compare your working and non working credit units some more to see if there are differences. Or have a look at the video at

https://www.funwithpinball.com/exhibits/small-boards#CreditUnit

There is some close up video of a working credit unit at the end that might help.
