When this happens, does the ball end? I mean, does the game think the ball has drained?
If yes, replace or repair (reflow the solder) the trough opto boards (assuming GOTG still has the classically troublesome trough opto boards).
If no, check and reseat the connectors on the applicable node board under the playfield. I had this issue with my Game of Thrones (also some of the GI was getting weird, turning off and on) and found that the connector on the node board had wiggled it's way mostly off of the board.
