Always kick my self for not stopping here on my past trips to Outer Banks. I guess just fighting through traffic to get where I need to go for vacation.
It certainly looks like a great place to flip plenty! I need to stop next go around.

    #3 2 years ago

I was highly impressed by this arcade when I visited a couple of years ago during an outerbanks vacation. Most games were in pristine condition and the sheer number of amazing titles was incredible. Definately stop in if you are in the area.

    #4 2 years ago

Awesome place with an ever-growing selection! If you ever head to the Outer Banks, definitely stop by.

    #5 2 years ago

Nice looks like the classics room is open, wasn’t when I was there in April.

Always a great place to stop by.

Love that place. Hadn't heard they went to hourly rate.

    Quoted from ectobar:

Love that place. Hadn't heard they went to hourly rate.

I usually frown upon the hourly rate scheme as these places tend to have beat up games and kids running all over the place starting 4 player games, but at OBX it has the opposite effect.

The pinball rooms are in the back far from all the kiddie gambling and racing games, and those games are NOT on "pay by the hour." So the only people back in the pinball room are people who actually play pinball, which is to say, not many. It means the games aren't going to get beat to shit, and there aren't gonna be tons of civilians running around making the place unbearable.

They even have a velvet rope to keep the birthday party crowd out of the pinball rooms! I thought it worked out really well and it's cheap for the pinball you get.

There is one bank of games on $ play out in the main room, I remember Elvira and Munsters were over there. I think it's probably just because they ran out of room in the pinball area, and it would be too difficult to "rope off" these games and leave them on free play in the main area.

It’s my favorite pinball place on the planet.

Interesting it’s called “Flippers pinball museum” rather than “Flippers Variety Store” like in the past.

Just stopped by about 2 weeks ago. It's going to be my Saint Patrick's Day shirt too.

I like it. I'm kinda over black tshirts. Hopefully I can swindle my work into sending me back down that way so I can pick one of these up.

Flippers got the new GnR and there was a mini pinball tournament tonight. GnR is pretty amazing and I’m awful at it, but this new DDR style game, DanceRush Stardum, is my new jam!

So pumped. My family tradition is to hit grave digger tour then flippers. Keep one of those shirts in 2xl!

We will be down on Saturday. Hoping for a rainy day to come back!

Bump: Monday tournament night 7pm sharp. Staying on the OBX Come by and play show up around 6:30pm. Stop by any time and play. $5 an hour, $9 for 2 hours or $15 all day. They have a boat load of games. Just to name a few. JJP GNR, Stern Mandalorain and one of Spooky's newest games on the way. I had a blast on 7-12-21

Update: We had a twister and what we thought was a tornado hit the back pinball room this past Wednesday, Aug.4th. It actually was classified as a Gustnado by the National Weather Service. The pizza place, Wise Guys Pies actually got a recording of it on a outside cam shooting across the road at our arcade. Anyway the twister ripped part of the roof in our back back pinball room that housed our oldest pins, Early 80’s, late 70’s and EM’s. We moved about 30 pins that were in these rooms to our warehouse and the room is being remolded with a new roof and repairing all the damage. This will probably take at least a month since the building inspector required new electrical and more. The good news is none of the newer games and DMD games were bothered. We have the new Guns & Roses, Mandalorian LE all still in the museum.
So for now it’s a little over 50 games and none of the older classics. Anyone want to design a Gustnado pinball? There already is a Whirlwind, Comet, Cyclone and Hurricane.

Sorry about the damage. I heard last week's weather was bad. Haven't played GNR or Mandaloria yet. In Corolla this week and will see you Tuesday or Wednesday.

Made it to Flippers today. Huge upgrades to the redemption / prize games over last year. Kids absolutely loved it. For me $5 for 1 hour a free play in the pin section was the best bargain around. I played a few for the first time. Impressions:

    GNR LE.
Great light show and theme but overall stock down. It was a never ending game of multi balls like I thought it would be. Seems next to impossible to lock 6 balls on the Gibson headstock. Too many balls get kicked out during gameplay. JJP flippers are sponges (Wonka felt the same way).
    IMG_9786 (resized).JPGIMG_9786 (resized).JPG

    Avengers Premium
Really liked this game. A bit clunky and damn is the Captain Marvel ramp tough to hit. 9/10 are rejects. Still it's a unique layout and well done.
    IMG_9792 (resized).JPGIMG_9792 (resized).JPG

    Stranger Things Premium/LE
I don't get why this game is getting popular. At all. Airballs galore. Demogorgon rejects galore. Playfield dimpled to death. Not surprised.
    IMG_9793 (resized).JPGIMG_9793 (resized).JPG

    Mandolorian LE
Holy crap this was a nice surprise. It shot so well. Seems really well done. Cool layout. Sleeper for me. Lots of fun.
    IMG_9794 (resized).JPGIMG_9794 (resized).JPG

    Led Zeppelin Premium
I'm about the biggest Led Zep fan there is. This is the worst Stern pin in a decade. So barren. So boring. Did Ritchie leave to go to JJP or was he fired? (I kid...I think)

I like how flippers just moves games into storage and fixes their roof without starting
A go fund me and asking for money.

    It’s still possible!

Stranger Things is a great game. So fast and great shots. I didn't think the one at Flippers was particularly tuned in very well. We have 2 locally where I am and I love them. (the pro is better, fyi)

Led Zeppelin is just a fast "shoot em up" kind of game. It's a smasher. No finesse. 100% smashing the ball all day. It was nice that the one at Flippers had the middle spinner working properly. Still didn't do much for me , but it's a really cool concept/toy/mech. Ripping that spinner was great fun. The ramps are really all that there is in this game, and it loses it's gusto (no relation to a Gustnado) fairly quickly. The song selection is on point though!

The mando LE got there 3 days after we left town so i was super bummed. I like the pro though. Hopefully will be my next pin.

And GNR SE is currently in my basement and loved playing it at Flippers!

So sad to see this and hear the news. We had so much fun visiting and the pinball is top notch. Heartbreaking to see those classic games in that condition. Did Hercules and Space Invaders make it out ok?

I really hope everything turns out for the best and everything goes right back where it was! I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner for a little bit while I was there. Awesome gentlemen and hope to talk again some day!

Hands down the best $15 you'll spend on your trip!

Had a great time down here this morning. Pretty much had it to myself. My wife won’t play so she patiently waited.

What an amazing place with all very well kept and playing machines. Only CC was off which I enjoy, but had plenty to play. I haven’t played a new stern since maybe Aerosmith? Wow, I’m missing a ton.

My favorite is GnR. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it near as much as I did.

Looks like they’re still working on the repairs in the back.

I enjoyed playing AIQ in the Corolla arcade too. They listed 3 pins on the sign, but only AIQ there.

    #27 2 years ago

I have visited this place twice although not for a few years now. It's pinball paradise. Very nice folks too.

    #28 2 years ago

What an awesome place and amazing people as well! We make the drive down from VA Beach as much as we can and always have a blast while down there! The place is super clean, never over crowded, the pay to play setup works great and there always seems to be something new on the floor. The redemption area and like games up front are great for kids as well and aren’t overpriced like many fun centers. I wonder how many people drive by it on the way down to the OBX and have no idea what they’re passing?! If you get a chance it’s definitely worth the trip!

    #30 2 years ago

Still only AIQ at Corolla arcade. If you want to play the newest, latest or the classics go to Flippers. I test out new games there. Last time there I tried out EHOH, DP, and Iron Maiden but 'had trouble deciding which one to buy...I ended up getting all three. That trip cost me about 24k...but I have 3 great games!

    #31 2 years ago

I took the family last week while visiting the outer banks (stayed in Duck). What a great place! There are now about 5 more machines on my list that I must have after playing at Flippers. A lot of newer machines which is very cool! I watched as the tech was installing plastic washers under the posts on GNR to save the Playfield and we had a nice discussion about it. Will definitely go back next year.

Thank you! I did it different this time around. Went Sunday to Sunday. My neighbor across the street went Saturday and hit a ton of traffic on the bridge tunnel! We hit nothing....but a ton of rain from Henri on the way home.

I'm headed down to my OBX house in Southern Shores on Sunday for 2 weeks. I plan to make 2 or 3 visits to Flippers during my stay. I'm really bummed that the back room is out of service. I can't wait for it to re-open.
When I was last there in May, I chatted with the Operator/Owner and also his assistant. Super nice guys.
Whoever said it was one of their favorite places on Earth, I agree with them.

I do believe Dave is still going to have it. That's what he said last month when I was at Flipper's.
But that was before the Gustnado.

Had a great time at Flippers yesterday. I can’t wait for the back room to open up. Lots of primo games from Jersey Jack, Stern, Spooky, and Bally/Williams. All games played great and I spent quite a while enjoying the Beatles machine.

The owner seems like a really nice guy. The back room is open and is fantastic. His Centaur is amazing, so is his Paragon and Flash Gordon. I had a great time on Flash Gordon and managed 2 games over 1 million on the 5 ball setting. I also thoroughly enjoyed Paragon, and the Limited Edition Game of Thrones. His 8 Ball Deluxe was a blast as well. My son in law and I had the pinballs to ourselves for about 4 hours today.

Missed it by a couple hours!.... we stopped into Flippers on the way to a golf weekend last Wednesday, and then again at 11AM yesterday...the back room was still closed. The games were all in 100% working order and very clean. I like the way they re-arranged to have all the JJP games along one wall. The entry to the back EM room was painted wall-to-wall to look like the Fathom machine artwork! very cool, with an old Fathom machine there. I hope they are making room for a Haggis Fathom. I was a bit disappointed to not see a Godzilla, but it's a bit early for that I imagine. Flippers is stocked with all the new Stern and JJP games...Mando, LZ, Avengers...GnR, PoTC, Wonka, Dialed-in. I was happy to see some Spooky games too TNA& ACNC.
The best part for me was some of the older games like MM, AFM, Cactus Canyon, Big Bang Bar, Fish Tales, Tron....
wow. just a stellar lineup all working well and on free play.
    $5/hour!

Flippers is a definite stop on the way to OBX, and the way home.

You were a day too soon. Owner sent a message around 3:00 pm that back room is open.

Some people are a day late and a dollar short. You had a fist full of dollars and a day to soon.

Defiantly recommend stopping headed South and again going North or vice versa.
