Hey All -

Didn't know how to title this thread, nor what to search if it's already been answered before (which I assume it has). I have a "new to me" Twilight Zone and experiencing a weird issue with both flippers. When I energize the left or right flipper, and the ball rolls down hard to them (from slot machine scoop for the right flipper), the flipper moves a little down and hits the ball up a bit. Sometimes, the flipper just dies and completely "falls down."

I rebuilt both flippers, replacing everything but the bushing. I probably should have done that, but neither of them looked damaged. Could this be an EOS issue? I thought replacing the arm/link and everything else would fix it as I thought there was play in them, but nope, same issue. I tightened the nut very hard, so it can't be the actual flipper bat rod moving. Any help is appreciated.

Quoted from LTG:

I'd clean the optos on the flipper button opto boards first.

Thank you LTG - haven't even checked those. The mechs needed cleaning/replacing anyways, so I guess it didn't hurt anything!

Quoted from Tsskinne:

I've also had the flipper plastic crack where it mounts to the flipper shaft and cause that little drop on a few games in the past.

I was fearing this answer - I just got done taking both of them apart and didn't change the bushings. My fault for not doing everything

I'm still having this issue after rebuilding the flipper completely (new plunger/link/stop/arm/bushing). Sometimes it "double flips," or completely drops down and loses all power. This happens on the left flipper too.. so maybe this is not a mechanical issue? Video Below - third scoop eject caused the flipper to completely collapse.

Anyone? What would cause a flipper to collapse upon a hard hit?

I'd try cleaning the flipper button optos first.

I did with a Q Tip and isopropyl alcohol
