Working on a demolition man, the flipper optos were dead when I got it, so I installed new ones. They still didn't work, and then when I went into the all lamps test the flipper started flipping. Unplugged the opto board and it stopped. Replaced the opto with another new one, same issue. At first I wondered if it was low voltage or something but the 12v unregulated point reads 14+... Anyone have any ideas of what could lead to that happening?

During lamptest, does the 12V regulated (TP3) stay at 12.0 Volt ?

I'll have to check, but aren't the optos run off the unregulated?

Do you suppose the light from all the lamps is bright enough to trigger the opto sensor?

Could the new boards you purchased have bad IR transmitter? Can you try a opto board from your Black Rose to see if the new boards are defective.

I only replaced the opto itself, not the whole board. The resistor on the board tests fine, so it seems like either both new optos are bad or there's some other weird issue.

Sadly my Black Rose is in another location so I can't easily swap parts although I do plan to grab them next time I get a chance

The LED in the opto is fed by 12V unreg.
The PhotoTransistor is in the circuit of the FliptronicBoard's 12Volt regulated

12v regulated drops from 11.8 to 11.5 during lamp test

That isn't dramatic but also not ok, only when the 12Vreg drops below 5V it will trigger the switches.

do you have 14 volt and GND at both flipperbutton optos ?

Yes

You can put the wires of SW1 and SW2 on the flipperbutton-board to 'Ground' and see if they trigger in switch test.
Also test the EOS switches manually to see if Fliptronic-board register the switches.
And check the ribbon cable between CPU and Fliptronicboard.

The triggers (which just ground directly the same switches) work fine, and when I ground the pins of the connectors of the flipper opto boards they register properly. EOS switches all test fine in switch test.

With 14 Volt and GND present at the flipperbutton-board, new PCB's and the switches trigger when grounding, it has all ingredients to work.

Is capacitor C30 on the Powerdriver ok ?
