The left flipper on my space invaders machine has gone crazy. When I hold down the flipper button the flipper will chatter or do a rapid fire motion and will continue to do this till I let go. Has the coil gone bad or is there something I could do to stop this from happening.

Sounds like a coil issue. Visually inspect it and look at the copper wires that go to the lugs. Is one broken?

No connections seem to be broken.

I should add that this machine has been used all day and just now started having a problem.

Replace the coil and report back

The high resistance part of the coil is broken, could be a broken wire or coil problem. Check the thin wires soldered to the coil. Sometime one breaks off the solder lug.

some times when the coil wire break is internal (not at lugs) you can see the sparking thru the coil wrapper if it is dark enough

machine gunning flipper = bad coil most of the time
