Right flipper of my RBION buzzes when I hold it down. Seems to work fine though. Does it need a new coil? Thanks for any info.

Hey,

My TSPP has done if forever. I asked; apparently it's a "Stern thing".

Its warning you of the large asteroid that is heading our way.

I had a similiar issue on Xmen. It is annoying. I took the inside bracket off that held the assembly together and found I had a small coil sleve. Hope this helps. Take both coil sleves out and compare.

this fixed the problem.

Yes this is pretty common in Sterns. There are many thread on RGP about it and how to correct it. There are probably threads about it on here also. I'm not a fan of (meaning I refuse to use) the search on pinside so I can't supply you with a thread link.

Here is an e-mail that was sent to a effected user by Joe Blackwell of Stern:

This is normal and inherent due to the way we pulse the coil
for hold mode. Some flippers are louder than others. Sometimes
loosening or
re-tightening or removing and replacing the coil stop on the
particular offender will decrease or eliminate the buzz, but if left
alone will
have no adverse effect on the flipper itself.

Best regards,
Joe"

This is sometimes noticeable on my Spider-Man, but only sometimes and not very loud. I did have this happen on my Playboy and a little adjusting on the flipper corrected it nicely. Don't ask me what I did...I think I just made sure everything was tight and just that small amount of tinkering cleared it up.

For a start grab the coil with the game off and see if you can slide it forward and back along the shaft. If you can then loosen the mounting screws for the coil and re-tighten while pressing everything together.

If that game/solenoid uses spring washers (check the manual to see if it does) make sure it is installed.

Also, try adjusting/cleaning the flipper EOS switch...may be able to take some buzz away.

I've found that if you file the plunger end and coil stop top smooth ( where they meet ) reduces or eliminates it on Stern pins.
