First thing I'd check is the solder joints at the coil lugs. Good joints ? Diode on tight ? This wires from coil windings to coil lugs - dig around them for cracks or breaks.

That didn't resolve it. You weren't blowing the fuse so amperage of fuse didn't matter. Though it's best to have the correct fuse in there to protect the game.
