I have a monopoly machine where the upper right flipper has stopped working. I checked the coil and it was working fine, it just doesn't work when the button is pressed. I presume this is an EOS issue. The thing I am struggling with is that there seems to be two EOS's Stacked on top of each other with a plastic piece in between the two EOS's. If I replace the EOS's what about that plastic piece? Do I even need it?

Your switch test might be helpful in this case. Look for a broken or disconnected wire near the button.

Checked and no broken wires, if I manually push the switches together then the flipper will fire as well.

I'd look into that doesn't happen when the machine closes the switches together. That sounds like your issue. Broken pawl or something not traveling far enough ?

If you don't see it. Post a picture for help.

Here is a picture I just took.

And there is your problem. The top blade is too far from the blade with the plastic piece. So when you push the flipper button in the second flipper switch never has contact.

Bend it closer so it closes when the flipper button is pushed in.

By the way, these are flipper button leaf blade switches, not EOS switches.

So should I replace those?

#9 3 years ago

Will do, I think I tried adjusting previous and it didn't seem to work well, however I don't recall so I will adjust and report back.

Thanks all.

Well you said it works if you use your fingers to push that switch closed right? Then that’s the issue. The button is not able to complete that same action. Adjust the switch so the button is closing both switches.

Correct I just thought if it stopped working out of the blue then it may be time to replace them but if all I need to do is adjust it closer and that's it then even better!

Think about what has to happen when you push the flipper button in, and watch it.

First it pushes the long blade, which in turn makes electrical contact with the next leaf blade. This leaf blade then pushes that white plastic piece up so it's contact can complete the electrical connection with the next and last leaf blade in that switch stack.

Look at the leaf blades. Each one has a contact on the end that looks like a rivet. They need to connect with their counter part to complete an electrical circuit.

This is similar to the top leaf blade switch on your leaf blade switch stack.

See how close the leaf blades and their contacts are compared to yours ?

And your top leaf blade has that shorter blade above it, that short one is what you bend to get the leaf blade closer to it's partner.

A leaf adjustment tool works well but it can be done in a variety of ways.
See the L contact adjuster on this page: http://pbresource.com/tools.html
Or this one from Pinball Life: https://www.pinballlife.com/ultimate-leaf-adjuster-tool.html

Even pushing the switch blade closer at the base of the switch blade works too.

Adjusted aa working well. Thanks and will certainly look into that tool!
