I would agree with Lloyd.
Open cap - it won't do anything detrimental to the flipper operation but would also allow arcing on EOS switch.
Shorted cap - flipper would always be energized in high power mode when button pushed.
Although coincidental, I would still suspect the act of soldering the joints fixed it.
