    Hi!

I have started an event that I hope catches on across the U.S.

I am organizing a charity pinball event in the Dallas/Ft Worth Area called "Flip Off Hunger" on the weekend of November 16 - 17, 2013 . The entry fee is $10-$20 worth of Thanksgiving Food that can be donated to a local food bank. ALL proceeds from the event will be donated to the food bank.

My hope is to get local media interested in our charity event and spread the message of charity along with growing the image of competitive pinball.

I also hope that other cities will host a "Flip Off Hunger" event on the same weekend

I have created a Facebook Page, "Flip Off Hunger Pinball Style!", https://www.facebook.com/groups/324029571067423/

I think it would be awesome to borrow the Launch Party concept of a similar event on the same weekend across the country. If we could have 5-6 different cities hosting the same event across the country, I feel that we could accomplish a lot of good for the hungry.

*** UPDATE: 14 cities are joining the cause to Flip Off Hunger. ***

If we can feed just one family by having fun doing what we love, playing pinball, then I feel that is worth the effort to host this type of event.

If you would like to join me, I am willing to help you organize, host, contact people, etc. I can provide tournament formats, IFPA set up, advice and contacts to help make your event work.

So if you are interested in joining "Flip Off Hunger", please join the facebook group.

The group is open to everyone who is willing to help make "Flip Off Hunger" a success!

14 cities have Flip Off Hunger events on the IFPA Sanctioned Tournament calendar. Players may participate in more than one event, but a player will only earn IFPA/WPPR points for the first Flip Off Hunger event attended. The events offer a full point (25+) IFPA Sanctioned Tournament.

We have Springfield, MO & Columbia, MO joining. So that makes three cities!!

    #3 10 years ago

I have confirmed with the IFPA that the "Flip Off Hunger" tournaments will be treated as unique tournament events.

So that means, you can earn a full 25 point base value for a "Flip Off Hunger" tournament for your city.

Once a city has a "Flip Off Hunger" event scheduled, it will be added to my growing list.

    So far, we have ...

"Flip Off Hunger - DFW, TX"
"Flip Off Hunger - Columbia, MO"
"Flip Off Hunger - Springfield, MO"

I am working on having a party logo created as well as getting a list of food bank contacts for those cities that decide to join our cause!

I'll update this thread with new information.

Sounds awesome. Good luck with the event. I run an event in Richmond for our foodbank called Pin(t)s for Kids. This winter may be our third but maybe I'll change it up for and make it a Flip off Hunger edition.

That's awesome! "Flip Off Hunger - Richmond, VA" has a nice ring to it!

    #8 10 years ago

What a great idea. I am in to support this 100%.

    #9 10 years ago

If it were organized locally by someone I could trust I would bring a game to setup.
I love the idea just do not want to run it at my home for many reasons.

Best of luck with the event

    #10 10 years ago

Awesome! I'll look into starting one in Lafayette.

Won't be able to do it that weekend.

    #12 10 years ago

Looks like St Louis is joining the party!!

And Taylor will be hosting a Flip Off Hunger event in December due to scheduling conflicts.

So if a December date helps another city host the event, please feel free to host it in December I instead of November. Poor families need food all year round!

    Please consider joining us.

How many states and cities now man?

    #14 10 years ago

Right now, it is four States. Texas, Colorado, Missouri & Kansas.

Seven cities. Austin, Dallas/Ft Worth for Texas. Denver for Colorado. Columbia, Springfield, St. Louis for Missouri. Kansas City for Kansas.

Not bad for just being a few days old!

The Dallas/Ft Worth Flip Off Hunger event will take place on Friday 11/15/2013 at Nickelrama Arcade in Garland, TX.

The date was switched to Friday because the owner of Nickelrama has graciously agreed to donate $1.00 for every paid admission into the arcade that night as well as all money collected by Pinball Machines.

Here is the Facebook event page for those interested in attending.

    https://www.facebook.com/events/534157463304055/

I'll post more cities later tonight.

Here are the logos, created by Pinside's own Bakushan, for the Flip Off Hunger event.

This logo will be added to T-Shirts that we will sell to raise money as well.

Let me know your thoughts on the logo!

Very cool idea and Im excited springfield will be participating!

    #18 10 years ago

Thanks for letting me be a part of it Xerico!

I'm in for Dec. 14th. The tournament will have to be limited to 32 players as space is limited and 32 creates an even bracket. I have a FB page for my charity, Pin(t)s for Kids and will be creating the event there in the next week or two.

    #20 10 years ago

Logos look very nice. Great work Bakushan.

    #21 10 years ago

Does it have to be on the weekend of 11-16? Could it be on 11-9 for instance?

    #22 10 years ago

I would be down for a tshirt if you do them

    #23 10 years ago

I will be making some minor spacing revisions to the logo soon.

    #24 10 years ago

Run some shirts with some of the proceeds going to the same cause. Also anyone doing one of these in WA and OR please get a hold of me I will bring at least one machine to event.

    Hello?

    #26 10 years ago

Sorry for the delay. I took a break from the internet this weekend.

It can be 11/9 as long as you get the event set up in time to notify IFPA within 30 days of your event. So you would need to have a web presence, a location and time by 10/8 and send that information to IFPA to get on the calendar.

    Marcus

    #27 10 years ago

    Updates:

#1 -- After speaking with the IFPA, a decision has been made that will impact the tournaments that are taking place during Flip Off Hunger events. A player will not be allowed to earn points at multiple Flip Off Hunger tournaments. A player may only play in one single Flip Off Hunger tournament event. If a player is listed on multiple Flip Off Hunger tournaments, the event with the earliest date will be used.

#2 -- Flip Off Hunger events may take place on any date in November and December.

#3 -- If you are organizing a Flip Off Hunger event, please make sure that you send an email to [email protected] with the information regarding your tournament at least 30 days prior to the event's date in order to get your tournament listed on the IFPA calendar.. If you fail to get IFPA the information, your tournament will not be eligible for IFPA points.

    Thanks!

The flip off hunger event in Lafayette, IN was this past Saturday, and was a huge success. We had 30 people come out, and raised a total of $710 and 68 lbs. of food. I dropped off the money to the food bank today. They informed me that with their network they are able to turn each dollar into 3 meals. So not counting the actual food, we were able to generate 2130 meals! I feel pretty good about that, and had lots of fun doing it.
