Hey All,

Just picked up a F2K last week that is in pretty nice shape but there were mismatched drops in the countdown bank and one of them (#4) was broken completely off. I ordered a new set from Steve at Pinball Resource and installed them tonight. I am having an issue with the bank sequence and resetting. I've attached a link to a video I took tonight that illustrates what is going wrong. Here it is:

For the record, these drops have acted like this since I got the game and this is not something that started after I replaced the targets tonight. Also, not all targets in this bank have the same kind of spring. There are two types on these - one longer than the other. I found replacements for them at PinballLife tonight and I am going to order some just to get five new ones on and make sure that they are all the same.

This is my first experience with drops, so any advice you guys might have as to how to improve the performance of these would be greatly appreciated. Tomorrow I will double check to make sure they all have the springs hooked on in the same manner. I'm pretty sure they do.

Thanks,

Tim

I'm realizing that I also need to slow down and do things right. It's hard when you're working on your fave table of all time...

Just pulled the coil apart thinking I was going to file the stop down and everything is filthy. Time to fire up the ultrasonic and get things clean before I move on to doing any filing. Also going to replace all those springs as I stated earlier. I'll update as I go along.

Can't thank you all enough for the suggestions. Keep 'em coming if you check this thread out and have anything you want to add.

One other question from someone who is still basically a noob: Since Stern is still in business, is there a reason that they don't still produce these targets according to their specs? Is it just the fact that there wouldn't be enough demand for them and they have better things to do, or is it something else?

OK so I have the switch stacks tuned in and everything is fine with these except for the re-setting issue. Have to say I'm torn between the idea of filing down the solenoid coil stop vs. adding a strip of something to the reset bar itself. I kind of like the strip on the reset bar idea so I may try it first.

To be honest, I have not noticed a serious bricking problem with my drops in that bank. I'm reserving judgement on that issue until I get the bank to consistently reset. I'll keep everyone posted as they have asked.

Yesterday I pulled out the bastard file and did as you guys suggested. Sure enough, the entire bank of drop targets now resets and I am no longer having an issue. Thanks for the tip!

Only one issue left and this table will be fully operational. Not bad for my first SS. Feeling good!

Thanks everyone who chimed in!
