Just got a flat top grill for early fathers day! I grew up in a restaurant, cooking for my dad from age 10. In my opinion there is no better way to cook corned beef hash or hash browns than a flat top. I made a big breakfast for family the first day, then made a hibachi style japanese dinner. Truly loving this! This one is a 2 burner 28 inch model, which is convenient for travel. Anybody else have pics or stories?

I’m in. My daughter bought me the steel made insert for my weber. This thing is awesome. Have had it for maybe a month now but need to cook more on it.

Someone was just telling me about how awesome their new blackstone griddle was. I have a built in gas grill that rarely gets touched since I got a Kamado. That grill top steel attachment might be just the thing I need to give my gas grill some life.

#4 2 years ago

This is my first griddle and I opted for this round Cuisinart. At my parties I like people to do their own cooking and serve at their leisure. With this 360 surface style it adds a bit more elbow room and seems more inviting.

I like it a lot but I'm still experimenting on what works best. Eggs, bacon ham etc for breakfast is great and so are roasting vegetables (my favorite). But hamburgers just don't have the same flavor on the griddle so I'm keeping my regular BBQ for now. I need to experiment more, especially with the burgers but so far so good.

check out steel made usa. that sucker is heavy. they said it's thicker than what the blackstone is. not sure if true but it is some thick steel. fits perfectly in my three burner weber spirit.

I have a problem with grills, similar to my pinball problem. I just keep amassing them. I've wanted a flat top for a long time! I have a small one attached to my pellet grill, but it was too small to do a lot of the things I really wanted to do on it. Thats why I picked up grill #5 the other day! A Char Griller Flat Iron 36"

Now, its no EVO or high end thing like that, but compared to a lot of other offerings out there its great! The flip up lid was a huge selling point for me. I saw that blackstone also has a model with a flip up lid now too, but it felt super chinsey compared to the flat iron. Very high quality for the price. I have only cooked some smash burgers on it so far but I am really digging it!

I have the exact same one. I bought it about a year ago. I use it about 5 times a week, for damn near everything. I find the best bet for burgers is to cook them on the outside edges (3 oclock and 9 oclock position seem to be the hotspots on this grill) with plenty of space between them. I tend to cook my burgers on low heat, flipping every 5 minutes. If you don't flip more, the burgers tend to get that blackened crust on them.

I dont see myself going back to a regular grill ever again. I do have a firepit with a tripod, and every once in awhile I will use that for steaks and burgers....But the griddle is where it is at..... Cooking the bacon and mushrooms in the middle while the burgers cook on the outside has been a winning combo in my house.

I picked up the Little Griddle Pro for my 4 burner Weber. Build quality and price are both awesome, ~20# of stainless. $125 at HD.

I’ve been looking for one for my camp chef. We don’t have a traditional grill because we like to deep fry outside or just bring out a cast iron pan to cook bacon or sausage in so it doesn’t smell up the house. We have the 2 burner explorer if anyone has a recommendation for it.

Just use the one camp chef makes for it! https://www.campchef.com/griddle-2-burner.html

Thanks for the tip. I knew I had to be missing something.

I just got it a couple of months ago and I like it a lot. It was easy assembly and the build quality is great. I hate wobbly gas control knobs and these are very solid as is the entire unit. And I love how quickly the griddle heats up in comparison to a regular BBQ. Fire it up and two or three minutes later that flat plate has absorbed all of the energy and is more than ready to cook on.

Only negative I can say is that I'd prefer to have a hinged dome cover but I knew that going in.

#17 2 years ago

I remember when we bought this I looked at that one but what turned me off was it cost more than what I paid for the camp chef! I did get a good deal on it, it was barely over $100 at Cabelas, maybe $115.

Yeah those look like an excellent way to get "scattered well, chunked and double-peppered" at home. Will look into toppers for our Weber...

I've been intrigued to get one because my kids love Hibachi. I also love to cook latkes and, like hashbrowns, I would imagine this is the best way to cook. A folding one to store would be the way to go, as I think they are eye-sores otherwise and wouldn't want to keep out on my deck next to my nice 53" Viking grill.

Thats kind of understandable but a big chunk of metal like that is gonna cost money regardless. Camp Chef makes quality products and they stand behind them like no other. Some of the best customer service in the buisiness. If you want a flat top for your portable grill, I think thats the way to go. Honestly $115 is not bad. You might be able to find it cheaper online somewhere too. I have a camp chef pellet grill and I found the jerky racks for it for 80 dollars on another site vs the $125 on their website.

I just picked out the Blackstone 22" adventure ready setup for father's day. I actually pick it up from Walmart today. I want to replace the folding Weber BBQ that I keep under my motorhome for camping trips and by all accounts, the Blackstone (or equivalent) seems to be the way to go. The BBQ I have folds up nice and is compact, but what a pain in the ass to clean. Looking forward to a much easier system to camp with.

Looking forward to more tips and tricks from you experienced griddle cookers here in this thread!

Had a thought that might help others.

Keep an eye on your grill if it's not in a secure or safe area.

Many years ago a friend of mine had a huge grill. A good 8 feet or more long. Wheels on one end. Handles on the other.

So one evening he gets it fired up. Full of meats. Ribs, steaks, chicken. Enough to feed an army.

Just about ready to eat he goes in the house to round up his family. Comes out. And the whole thing is gone. He ran all over the area. No sign of it. Lost everything.

Disclaimer : Some thief had a nice feast.

Looks like they sell a single burner flattop as well, I’ll probably pick that up. We have their deluxe grill box over one burner, this way I can flat top and grill at the same time.

I have that same blackstone and I gotta say...Smashburgers! Squash those patties with a heavy press while theyre cooking to get that delicious crust formed. I prefer my burgers this way now instead of the grill.
In fact since getting the Blackstone, the gas grill has pretty much been relegated to the “back burner” yuk yuk yuk.

Go a lot longer than the directions say with the heat on full blast, use a high smoke point oil like canola, then cook a bunch of bacon on it.

Agreed.... When my old grill fell apart last year, I pulled the trigger on the Cuisinart shown earlier in this thread, and there is no way I would ever go back to a regular grill. The versatility of the griddle is awesome.
