So my STTNG restore is stalled... waiting on Planetary to send me the correct stuff I ordered. Which apparently takes several weeks?? Anyways... I figured I’d get another project to work on and pulled my FG out of storage.

I bought this one for $500 many years ago. It was a total wreck, full of mud diver nests and smelled like ass. I got it to boot and start a game and then we sold our house, and it’s been in storage for the past five years. During those five years I’ve been buying parts for a restore. About all I need to buy are cabinet decals and new legs.

So here we go!!

Got it back home. Wow this thing is a total piece of shit. Just needs some wax and a new fuse?

Playfield should be an easy restore. I will paint all the art back on by hand using my fine art skills.

Filthy backbox. The S&T board is missing... I have a few in a box somewhere, hopefully one of them is working. I’ll look tomorrow.

I’m just kidding about hand painting the playfield... I have an effin hardtop!!

She boots up and flips first try! Obviously due to my excellent repair work five years ago. Ok well there are a few problems, but I’m certain they are connector-related. I’ll work all that out and rebuild all the connectors anyway.

I played one ball but then the trough kicker doesn’t fire. F it. All the other coils fire, so that’s pretty good. I feel like a pinball god but mostly because I’ve been drinking.

I noticed there is a problem with the sound... I don’t hear anything. Might be because there is no sound board in but I’m not sure.

I have a perfect mint backglass for it.

Actually I’m kidding, this one is the total piece of shit that came in the game. It has about twelve pounds off triple thick hanging of the back. It would be a great wall hangar though actually.

I do have a nice one I picked up! I’ll take pics soon.

What’s the correct legs for this game? I can never remember.

The original strobe board in this has never worked... but, I did pick up one of these years ago

Can you tell which one is new? It’s the red one

Looks molested on the back. I might try to repair this one, for fun.

I installed the new board. Tears streamed down my face as I saw the game emit a little flash of light for the first time. Reality soon sinks in and I can’t believe I spent money on this board.

Been working on my S&T board. It was a cheap one off eBay. Got it working but speech was garbled. Turns out it was jumpered wrong for the type of EEPROMs.

All fixed.

Here she is 100% working for the first time since I bought it nearly ten years ago!

Now it’s time to tear it apart.

Under playfield is actually pretty clean. Should be an easy restore. I’ll change all lamp sockets and run everything through the ultrasonic.

Good luck fixing up your game. An all time favorite of mine. Can’t get my red strobe board to work. Crashes my MPU every time. Tried an old working board a friend had and the game played at a show for two days without fail. Go figure. BTW, there is a dedicated FG thread. You might think about posting there too. Have fun.

Just realized I was definitely drunk when I made some of those posts a few weeks ago. Oh well nobody’s perfect.

Damn.....the underside looks to be in awesome shape from the picture. Most of them look like 20,000 leagues under the sea. Might be a smoother project.

Yeah it's really strange because the head and bottom of cabinet was loaded with mud dauber nests. Big ones, like I cleaned out a couple pounds of mud. Yet they didn't touch under the playfield... it's the only part of the machine that was really nice.

Cabinet is needs a new back and strengthen the bottom, but otherwise is nice and solid.

Should clean up good.
