was hoping somebody has a good method or experience fixing wrinkles in the cabinet decals around the legs. I just bought a hard rubber hand roller and heard using this in combination with a hair dryer to deactivate the glue works....

Anybody ever tried this? What kind of barrier did you use between the hair dryer and your machine? Any help is appreciated.

That will work, go slow.

There is a learning curve. If you take your time you won't hurt anything.

Can I use the hair dryer directly on the cabinet?

#4 11 years ago

Hold it aways away and heat things up gently and slowly.

Interesting. I didn't know this. Let us know the results.

I've used wax paper against the cabinet and slowly and carefully go over he area with a hot clothes iron

I have used hair dryers and it worked great. You can usually work out the wrinkles with your fingers once it heats up and the glue softens.

thanks for the suggestions. ill give it a try once my roller comes in.

Where do you buy this roller?

Try Viagra. It gets my wrinkles out.

Ok, assuming one is able to get the wrinkles out, how do ya prevent it from happening again?

#18 11 years ago

Very timely topic for me. Thanks guys.

Just ordered the roller from Amazone. Only three left.

Is this a restored decalled cab or a new stern with decals?

Yeah good thread my NF is very wrinkled.

#22 11 years ago

Yeah I saw that...it was cheaper at walmart and they estimated it would ship immediately...they were wrong

I plan on getting some felt or softer covers and maybe use them with my hard protectors?

This is for a restored decalled cab. Just got an IJ not too long ago.

After you fix the issue, it might be worth a shot to cut away a bit of the decal and try the new stern metal brackets that keep the legs from touching the cab. They work fantastic on my AC/DC.

I've pulled wrinkles out of my MB by heating gently with a hair dryer, then slowly sliding the decals back into place using steady pressure from my fingertips. It's slow going, but works well. The roller is a cool idea.

I can say from experience, the plastic PinGuard protectors will cause them to wrinkle again. I have bought the felt protectors from Pinball Life, and I will be de-wrinkling and swapping the felt in soon.

Think felt under the pinguards would work?

I would get the Stern Metal Leg Brackets, I got a set for my TRON and they work awesome...

I've read it will, but I just got the felt yesterday, so I can't say from experience.

Where can you get the stern metal leg brackets?

I got the roller in and it worked pretty well. I'll be doing this again but its working so far. Used a hair dryer while i rolled and pushed with fingers.

after - still needs a little work but much better. Going to be putting felt under the protectors.

Did you feel like the roller helped or fingers did most of the work?

#32 11 years ago

Fingers did most of the work but the roller helped even it out and push the air out in a more uniform fashion. It was with it for me I think but probably not for everybody.

#33 11 years ago

Use Sterns metal brackets, order from a distributor they are about $30.
felt under leg guards isnt going to help and you will only get the wrinkles again.

the metal brackets from Stern, are the best option on the market by far.

Just noticed some wrinkling around my BBB legs. It did have pincabs on it.

Does anyone have any experience specific to fixing BBB decal wrinkles? What worked and what did not work.

I'm planning on using Stern metal leg protectors once I get the wrinkles out. Has anyone installed these on a BBB??

Thanks, Martin
