Heat shrink splices suck but it could be worse.
The 'Best' type of spice by far is simply wires twisted together and wrapped in electrical tape that is 20+ years old. Always accompanied with the sticky, gooey gunk that gets all over everything including your fingers. It sticks to everything but magically no longer sticks to the splice.
