Ponds rarely freeze enough here for me to comfortably head out on the ice. We have done it in the past, though. I would always stay on shore and let my buddy go out with the auger to drill some test holes first. 
Caught some small bass/panfish.
I think I'm too much of a puss to do it anymore. I really don't want to fall through.
Warmer weather is more suitable for my fishing taste...

In my college days, we used to spend new years at Deep Creek Lake. One night, after way too many beverages, we thought it would be fun to try ice fishing. Only thing we had to get through the ice was a road flare and a hammer. Took forever and by the time we made a hole, we decided just to go back to drinking.
We fished a number of years ago, Upper NW territories. Only ones on the lake. Fish in a barrel. Every cast was a pike or walleye. And it never really got dark. It was awesome.

We were in the middle of the lake fishing and the camp owner flies in, lands the float plane next to us and offloads a couple cases of Molson and a Sat phone, then took off. Good times.

Spreading like crazy. I don't mind. They are a blast to catch.
Caught a few striped bass this week in the 40+lb range. No good pics though, just quick catch and releases while in the water.
