I just bought a FT last weekend and noticed that there is a post set below and between the middle of the flippers (ala Whirlwind). Is this normal or maybe an operator installed it when it was on route? Your thoughts? Thanks!

#2 10 years ago

There is no post on FT.

#3 10 years ago

It must have been added by a previous owner then. It doesn't seem to be helping my game play anyway. Curse those Lightning Bolt Flippers! Thanks

Also, I don't think WW had a middle post either. Or did it?

#5 10 years ago

I own Whirlwind and it does have a center post.

Yes, I have owned one of each -- as others have said, WW should have a center post and FT should not.

Thanks to all who have shared and commented. Just wondering, does this hurt the value of the game-I'm guessing yes to a serious collector? It's obviously not a big deal to me. Whoever did it, did a good job with it. It's clean and it looks like it's always been there.

Yes, it will negatively affect value. if you want your game to be "how the factory made it", there will be a hole where that post was removed. A lot of times things are added to games to improve gameplay/protect the game. A post between the flippers isn't one of them.

The issue really isn't the post, per se, but rather the hole in the playfield. Yeah I suppose it can be filled and and touched-up to be barely noticeable.
