Hey all,

My Fish Tales decided last night to develop reel issues. It was fine the previous time I played it. Now, the reel spins longer than it should after each ball is locked. When the second ball goes into the caster's club, it doesn't end up in a hole in the reel (the reel isn't going into the correct position after the first ball is locked.)

What I've done:
-Cleaned optos
-Verified that optos work fine in test mode
-Verified that reel test works with no issues
-Replaced connectors to motor controller board
-Replaced rubber ring between gearbox and reel

What am I missing here? I'm stumped.

*Edit 9/1/14* This seems to have been simply a case of a loose connector on the CPU. Everything seems to be resolved now!

I don't have the correct band for the reel, and plan to buy and install the right one. It worked previously with a 3.5" black playfield rubber, and I replaced it with a new one of those for the time being. While waiting for that to arrive, I'm going to try troubleshooting other issues, as the onset of this issue was sudden enough, I have to imagine there's some electronic issue somewhere.

Quoted from nighttaco:

I had the same problem and here is the most likely issue.... The 3 opto board that everything connects to has something going out in it, take the board out and reflow the solder and see if that fixes it. That's the identical issue I had and its the controller board that the optos connect to rather than the optos if you have already replaced them. You may neet to just get a new board if that's the issue, good luck with the fix!

Thanks for the advice! Do you recall where you reflowed the solder on that board? I just tried reflowing the three 2k resistors and a couple joints right by them (where the board seems to take a lot of heat,) and that didn't help, but am wondering were your solder joints were busted.
