^^^^ It looks even better in person.

Quoted from Steve_d71:

Fishtales and Whitewater belong together. I have them beside one another and they're staying!

Amen. I added both in 21 and they are both such awesome original games. Keepers for sure!

Quoted from Paseb:

doing a full resto on my FT
i have a playfield protector going over the mirco new playfield.
is it necessary to order Cliffy's if this will be a HUO pin? i'm not a big player. i play from time to time with my wife and some friends/family.

If it's HUO and you only play from time to time, I'd ditch the playfield protector altogether.

#4306 2 years ago
Quoted from Paseb:

is it necessary to order Cliffy's if this will be a HUO pin?

If it’s HUO and lightly played, I agree w Scribbles. I would skip the playfield protector, and Cliffys aren’t a huge deal, imho, on a HUO FT. Maybe just the 2 shooter lane protectors for the kickout. But it’s a restored game, so keep it as pristine as you can! Post some pics too.

#4307 2 years ago
Quoted from Paseb:

i have a playfield protector going over the mirco new playfield.

I would just go with a shooter lane protector. The original playfields all wear around the tacklebox/fish inserts which must be due to some issue with the clearcoat/manufacturing. I would not expect a repro playfield to wear there in the center.

#4308 2 years ago

I agree with the 3 crazy cat people above my post, I wouldn't bother with a playfield protector on a HUO game.

#4309 2 years ago

My good friend lou is doing the restore.
I will keep the protector as i have it in my restored tftc and roadshow. Also have it on getaway(next restore)

I kinda like it.

I have protectors on a few of my games also. But not FT. The only concern I have for FT is the orbit switch. It took a lot of tweaking to get that switch to work perfectly. A protector would be back to the drawing board for me. My MM plays better with the protector. Fewer bounce outs of Merlins Hole, my orbit switches are dead nuts everytime ( not so before installing the protector. Can’t really explain why though) and much smoother ball action over the Troll doors. Lots of air balls in that game and I don’t have to worry about pf damage as a result. I know tournament type players hate protectors and I understand that. They should. But I am not tournament player (mostly because I don’t have the skills)

#4311 2 years ago

Yes the orbit switch, my friend told me about it when installing my protector. Very bad.

I assembled this for my FT…you can’t go fishing without beer. I need to pour a clear glue or epoxy over it that will keep all the “ice” and beer in place.

anyone with an original manual for sale?

#4318 2 years ago

Hey gang, new to the club. I know its a longshot, but I need just the artwork decal for the cab front... Anyone have one they'd sell?
I could also use the boat ramp center plastic, but it seems that may be even harder to come by!

A couple suppliers do offer the boat ramp plastic. Google it and it should come up. The colors are slightly different from the original (the original is more tan and the repro is more reddish, or vice versa) but they look nice. Ebay might have one also. I think about $20 or so.

And get a plastic protector to go with it, or you'll be needing another boat plastic before you know it.

I have the protector to add, but all the usual suppliers are out of stock, and notta one on ebay currently.

Sorry, that’s a bummer. Planetary does have a full set of plastics for $159.00, not a bad price for a complete set. It doesn’t include the fishing pole plastic, which isn’t made anymore. It does have the others, including the boat and a fish key fob, which some people value highly. I have a backup boat plastic from when I upgraded to a new one. I can’t remember if it was cracked or not, it might simply have been scuffed up a bit. If you can’t get a new one, message me. I’ll send you a pic of my old one.

#4324 2 years ago

If anyone is in Australia I have a spare used good Fishing pole plastic, along with 3 original translites.

#4325 2 years ago
Quoted from Paseb:

Yes the orbit switch, my friend told me about it when installing my protector. Very bad.

Put a protector on mine and wasn’t a problem, just had to adjust the pop switches and all was good.
Although I did have to shave a bit off the protector on the bottom left by the apron to get it to sit fiat.

For those not lurking in the tech forums, dvschaller posted a nice solution for the top right loop switch that jams the balls. You can read more about it in his thread : https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/fish-tales-ball-stuck-at-top-of-right-loop

Thanks for the offer, I found a new one. I also found and ordered the cab front decal at Ministry!

Is the fishing rod plastic still not available? That was the only old piece I had to put back on after the playfield swap.

When I power up my fish tales, at times it starts to boot and then shuts down and then boots up regular. Sometimes it starts to boot and shuts down up to 3 times before booting up like it should. Other than that it works fine except for an occasional reboot during a game. I have reseated all the connectors and ribbon cables and replaced the voltage regulator. Any other suggestions?

Check for acid damage on the boards. It's possible you have a trace that took a little damage.

I had a similar issue and it drove me nuts. If there is some damage, you can splice a wire on the back side of the board. But you definitely have to know what to connect. Mine was on the largest board.

If your boards are clean then it can be the thermistor in the box that has the utility socket and the power switch. This thermistor might be acting up which usually causes issues around boot time, until it warmed up properly and then resets go away.

Does anyone smarter than me know what’s up with that? Do we have an embargo with Germany or they with us? Do they think American pinball people are stinky? I thought we was alies with them folks. Why they won’t ship to me?

Well they used too, I have ordered from them years ago, then they just said, no more! i have a feeling its something to do with Planetary and their copyright nonsense. Similar situation why Retro Refurbs no longer shows cab graphics on their website, but they will still ship non-copyrighted stuff to the US.
